VBT Pit Stop with GA Hauser - Review : Of Wolves and Men

I had to give you some eye candy with this one :)

Charlie Mosby was a ranch hand utterly confused about his sexuality. He was watching the other guys that he worked with, wondering what was wrong with him. He had never thought of other men until he had a flat tire on the highway, and Joe, a stranger introduced him to a man's way of life. Vernon, his boss was hoping Charlie would marry one of his daughters, and Charlie just didn't know what to do.

A report of a broken fence on the land sends Charlie out to investigate. When he arrives, he finds a deer with her throat cut, along with the fence. Wrapping the deer he starts back to report his findings, knowing that some funny business is going on. On his way back down to the farm, his horse starts acting up. Trying to regain control, Charlie finds a man laying with blood on him. Immediately he jumps off his horse to lend his hand in helping. Charlie gets this man back to his cottage, wondering what the hell happened to him.

This is when it all begins for Charlie. He now knows he enjoys being gay once he meets Roman Burke. What he never expected though, was the battle he would have to face in order to be him. Roman shows him love in more ways than one, and Charlie is not expecting to be facing Romans curse of being a shape shifter. As Roman and Charlie try to figure out what exactly happened to Roman, causing him to change at the most in-opportune times, their love grows along with the farms knowledge of what is real and what isn't.That includes the fact that Charlie is in a relationship with another man. Can Charlie withstand all the changes that are happening in such a short amount of time?

Hauser did a fantastic job with this title. This was my first time reading her work, but I loved it.  It moved very quickly and was full of action from beginning to end. There were some parts that I felt didn't flow smoothly, but it just didn't matter as you continue reading. The plot and the action heavily outweigh the flow.  I couldn't wait to find out what happened and turned the pages as quickly as I could to get to the end. I enjoyed this read and am sure you will too. I can't wait to read more from G.A. Hauser.

Here is the Blurb:

‘Cowboy’ Charlie Mosby worked on a horse ranch in Heber, Utah. He loved his work, the owners of the ranch, and his co-workers; wranglers who helped tourists with guided horse tours and trail riding all year round.
But after a chance meeting with a handsome gay man who had helped Charlie change a flat tire on Interstate 80 a month ago, Charlie was beginning to wonder about his sexuality. And if that wasn’t confusing enough, strange things were happening on the ranch.
Satanic worship? A strange cult ritual? Whatever it was, it wasn’t good for the owners or the horses on it.
One night Charlie stumbles upon Roman Burk in the woods, naked, bleeding and shivering in the cold. What Charlie never imagined was who -or what- Roman was. Even though the handsome stranger seemed to vanish at times and reappear as if by magic, Charlie was infatuated by this man.
Roman was fearful of revealing his secret. Most of all to a cowboy who was spending more time hunting him, than loving him.
In this shape-shifting story of sexual bonding and discovery, can both Charlie and Roman find what they’re looking for? It’s a question of honor; one that has been up for debate since the first time man set his eyes on this formidable predator. It’s about the mutual respect of Wolves and Men.

Here's a juicy excerpt that you're sure to love:
It was crisp and clear. The dark sky was covered in stars, far more than anyone near a city could see. As he made his way, his horse the only sound for miles, Charlie realized his buddy ‘Goat’ was right. Nothing seemed alive around him. Usually the songs of night birds or movements of nocturnal hunters were audible. Not tonight.
A chill rose to his skin, but it was under his jacket and not from the cold. He had never believed in supernatural mumbo-jumbo. Didn’t pay attention to local Indian legends, and certainly never believed in ghosts.
He drew near the area where he and Butch had repaired the fence. It was intact just as he had left it.
The ground was freezing up, and Spirit’s hooves snapped brittle twigs and made heavy clomps on the solid soil.
A whimper caught his attention. He stopped Spirit and listened.
A sensation stronger than chills hit him. It was borderline terror. He jumped off Spirit’s back and held the rein. After a few yards, Spirit refused to keep walking with him, rearing up but not in a violent way, just being stubborn. Charlie trusted his horse’s instinct. He stopped too.
Another whimper, a very human voice, shocked him. Spirit would not approach with him, so he dropped the rein and hurried towards the sound.
In the dimmest of the sliver of moonlight, Charlie found a man, naked, in the fetal position, shivering.
“Son of a bitch!” He rushed to his side and found blood spattering him. “Talk to me! Where’re you hurt?” Charlie touched the man’s arm.
Immediately the man’s brilliant green eyes met his.
“Hang on! Hang on!” Charlie rushed back to Spirit who was looking nervous, the whites of his eyes showing. “Calm down, buddy. Don’t you go crazy on me now.” Charlie took a blanket off the saddle and hurried back. He wrapped it around the shivering man.
“What the hell you doin out here in this cold? You will get hypothermia.” Charlie tried to warm him.
“No wonder!” Charlie tucked the blanket closer around him. “I need to get you out of here.”
“No…no police…”
“Look. I just want to get you warm, all right?”
The man nodded.
“Where’s that blood comin’ from?” Charlie began to check the man over. Though he was thinking only of the man’s wellbeing, this man was at least six feet tall, and built like he had weight lifted at a gym all his life. His hair was jet black and his jaw had dark designer stubble covering it. He looked like a city boy, out of his element.
Charlie tucked the blanket high on the man’s chest and inspected his legs for some kind of wound. His thighs were wide and muscular, his pubic hair as black as his head hair, and the glance Charlie got of his crotch was enough to know this man was big everywhere. “Come on, partner. I got to get you warm. Can you stand?”
The man nodded, struggling to sit upright.
“You got a name?” Charlie hauled the man to his feet, feeling his weight leaning heavily on him.
“Roman. Roman Burk.” The man’s teeth chattered.
“How on earth did you get here and why?” Charlie walked Roman to Spirit.
The horse backed up, snorting as if in fear.
“Hang on. He’s all spooked.” Charlie grabbed Spirit’s rein and had to drag him closer. “What’s with you, boy! Calm down.”
The horse shifted like a nervous colt, not staying still for a second. “Spirit! Hold on. Hold on, boy.” Charlie dragged Spirit closer to Roman by the chin strap, angry the horse was making a bad situation worse. “Come on, Roman. You climb on. Just step into my hand.”
Roman and Spirit seemed to lock gazes. It was the oddest thing Charlie had ever seen. “Come on, Roman, he’s all right.”
Clinging to the blanket, Roman seemed as reluctant to get on Spirit as Spirit was for him to ride him. “Will you both calm down?” Charlie had no idea this would be an issue. He yelled at the horse, “You gonna make me call and wake someone up? Now behave.” He reached out to Roman. “Come on.”
Roman moved closer.
“Climb up. I got you.” Charlie cupped his hands for Roman to step into it and get on the saddle.
Spirit was about to protest, but Charlie jerked his bridle to prevent it. He swung up behind Roman and put his feet into the stirrups. It took some persuading but finally Spirit began heading back down the trail.
Charlie felt Roman leaning back on him, so he held him close with one arm. “Why are you up here? You know, you picked a bad time to be getting lost naked in the woods, Roman. There’s some mighty odd things going on lately. You’re lucky I found you when I did.”
“Thank you.”
It was so softly spoken, Charlie just caught it. Roman’s hair brushed his lips as they rode back.
“Thank you, Charlie.”
“I’ll take care of you…” Charlie blinked. “I don’t remember telling you my name.” Did he? He must have.
“I know. I know you will, Charlie. You’ll take good care of me.”
“Have we met?” Charlie felt a strange sensation in his body.
“I’m so cold.”
Charlie held him tighter. It was the best he could do with one arm. He didn’t know where he was going. The hospital? Vernon’s house?
“Your cabin. Please.”
“Are you reading my mind?” Charlie laughed but he was slightly rattled.
“You don’t fret. I’ll take care of you.”
“Thank you, Charlie. I know you will. That’s why I chose you.”
Charlie imagined the cold was making Roman slightly delusional. He heard hypothermia did that. Made you hallucinate.
He rode to the barn, dismounting and helping Roman do the same. He tightened the blanket around Roman and quickly got the saddle off Spirit. Spirit was still acting like a mass of nerves, staring at Roman like Charlie had never seen him look at another human before.
He shut the lights in the barn and held Roman around the waist as he hurried with him to his cabin. “Almost there.”
“I know.”
Charlie opened his door and locked it behind them. “I’ll get the fire going, you go take a hot shower, ya hear me?”
Roman dropped the blanket, standing naked before him.
Charlie gulped audibly. “You…you need me to show you where everything is?”
Roman stalked him.
Charlie backed up near the fireplace. The blood spatter was in a strange pattern. Light, as if Roman was standing beside something else that was shot, or cut. But Charlie kept being drawn to Roman’s eyes. The intensity of the color, the power of the stare was hypnotic.
Roman put one hand against the cabin’s exposed wooden beams, over Charlie’s head. He brushed his lips against Charlie’s lightly.
“Sweet mother of god, I got me another gay boy.” Charlie gulped and his cock went thick in his jeans.

GFP - E-Reader Giveaway & At The Round Table with Gordon A. Kessler - Brainstorm

Gordon A. Kessler

Gordon A Kessler is a former US Marine parachutist, recon scout, and Super Squad team leader, with a bachelor's degree in creative writing.  He is a Master Instructor for Johnson County Community College, National Academy of Railroad Sciences, and the BNSF Railway.  He has taught novel writing for Butler County Community College, English Composition for Hutchinson Junior College and has previously indie-published the thriller novels Jezebel and Dead Reckoning, and a book about the novel-writing craft, Novel Writing Made Simple.  He is a founder and former president of the Kansas Writers Association and tries to stay connected to writers and the writing industry by doing speaking engagements at writers conferences and for writers organizations, and has does his own "The Storyteller" seminar in Wichita, Lincoln (Nebraska), Kansas City, and other Midwestern cities based on his Novel Writing Made Simple book. His websites, www.WritersMatrix.com and www.IndieWritersAlliance are landing pages for writers to help them in their writing endeavors.

Welcome to the Round Table.  May I offer you a beverage before we begin?

The Mystic Brew sounds interesting, I think I'll try it.

Wonderful,  enjoy.

Thank you, does it usually boil like this?
LOL, afraid so. Made with a special mix :).

Thank you so much for taking time to chat with me today.  It's so nice to have you at the Round Table.

BK:  Please tell us a bit about yourself....

GK:  I'm a write-a-holic, have been for twenty years. I don't like reality—the bad guy gets away with way too much. In my thrillers, the bad guy does get away with tons, but he always pays for it in the end.

I enjoy teaching writing almost as much as I do writing my own stories. I do several seminars and workshops each year, on my own or at conferences. I love writers, and we need each other's support.

I'm a former Marine, I like to sail, snow ski, SCUBA and travel.

BK:  What inspired you to pen this novel?

GK:  I've always been fascinated by the many different "black" projects that this country and others have conducted and still are. Our government has done some pretty strange stuff over the years. The psychic power studies and remote viewing projects were really out there.  Also, I find the new cutting edge weaponry and nonlethal devices interesting. Throw in what everyone wants: a lover with an undying passion, and you have Brainstorm.

BK:  What draws you to write in this genre?

GK:  Thrillers are BIG suspense stories. They involve very hi stakes, sometimes whole countries or the world. I like that. I like my stories to mean that if things go wrong, the entire world will suffer—be changed forever. The more at risk, the more necessary it is that the "bad guys" must be stopped.

BK:  How do you keep your writing different from all the other novels in this genre?

GK:  I do an incredible amount of research to give each story as much realism as possible. Still, I don't use it all—I just need to understand what I'm writing about so that

BK:  Who is your favorite character and why?

GK:  That's a toss-up between the male and female leads. Daniel McMaster has done it all and seen it all, but still has managed to keep the ugliness he's seen locked inside and use the beauty he's experienced to help understand the world and make it better. Sunny McMaster is a beautiful redhead that is un-budging in her love for her husband and daughter, and she would do anything she had to in order to protect them—even give her life to do so.

BK:  Which character would you most invite to dinner?

GK:  Sunny, beyond a doubt. If it were Daniel, we just exchange ol' Marine stories.

BK:  What is your favorite part about writing?

GK:  The creativity—the creation of worlds and lives before my eyes that become even more interesting, beautiful, exotic and dangerous than I'd imagined initially. I write these fantastic stories to see what happens "if..."

BK:  Did you find any particular challenges during the writing of this novel?

GK:  Like I'd mentioned, the research was an incredible undertaking, and I don't think someone could understand how without reading the book. Still, the key was to not make Brainstorm a "techie" novel. I wrote it in such a way that someone who doesn't care to get into the technology can understand it and I don't spend pages upon pages explaining it all. I think I ended up with a smooth, quick read.

BK:  Did you learn anything about yourself as a result of writing this novel?

GK:  I learned I can write a story about love and truth and put it in a setting that is dangerous and high tech. It's not easy. I have rewritten and fine-tuned Brainstorm a dozen times.

BK:  Are you currently working on any projects?

GK:  I'm actually working on the Brainstorm sequel, The Master Plan. Many of the Brainstorm characters are back, but this is going to be totally different, with even more at stake. I'm about a quarter of the way through and having a blast.

BK:  Any advice for new aspiring authors?

GK:  Keep at it. Suddenly, in this relatively new eWorld we live in, opportunities abound for good fictionists.

BK:  Where can readers find you?  (Facebook, twitter, website, blog, etc.)

GK:  I'm everywhere—still a little tentative, however. I'm new on twitter (www.twitter.com/gordonkessler –please be my friend!), have just started to use my Facebook account (www.FaceBook.com/gordonkessler1), I'm on LinkedIn and trying to figure that out. I have several websites: www.GordonKessler.com (for my own writing), www.ReadersMatrix.com (for my "Indie Author" friends' to display their books and short stories), www.IndieWritersAlliance.com (an org I founded to help other writers put out good fiction and get it ePublished) and www.WritersMatrix.com (a landing page to support writers with helpful links, products and services).

BK:  Fantasy or Horror?

GK:  HORROR! Love it! My first novel, Jezebel, was so much fun to write and it still scares me at night.

BK:  Day or Night?

GK:  Night, it's a mysterious, wonderful time when your imagination can run wild.

Thank you so much for being at the Round Table today.  It's been such a pleasure chatting with you and I wish you much success in the future.

In Brainstorm, Gold Rush seems to be just another sleepy little Colorado community full of friendly, caring citizens, quaint cottages, and a sort of quiet peace, held gently by the picturesque mountains that surround it. However, something isn't right in Gold Rush, and early on a Monday morning Robert Weller awakens with a cautioning and insuppressible voice inside his head. He soon finds a secret behind every door, a motive with every glance, and a lie beneath every spoken word.
After meeting a strange but beautiful woman named Sunny who insists they were once lovers, people begin dropping dead around him and his world twists upside down as paramilitary teams hunt him, and his own wife and friends turn against him. Weller is thrown into the middle of a military mission to rescue thousands of the town's citizens from a plot to destroy the Free World.
Time is running out: Weller, Sunny and thousands of innocent citizens are facing nuclear devastation. Major “Jax” Jackson and a U.S. Air Force Para Rescue team are their only hope—but how can Jax and his PJs save them all, armed only with nonlethal weapons?
...as exciting and fast-paced as a thrill ride on a dive bomber, a maelstrom of action, violence, murder and mayhem, way too much fun to put down...based on an actual black CIA program known as ‘Project Stargate. Kessler...really knows his stuff. An outstanding novel.”— Douglas Preston, bestselling author of The Codex, Relic and Book of the Dead and many more.
"...a wild ride into the reality of human consciousness...a kickass adventure story that will have you thrumming through the pages well into the night...handled with stunning effect."— James Rollins, bestselling author of Black Order, Sandstorm and Map of Bones as well as many others.

“He left you behind to die, like he did several thousand other folks. You don’t have anything to fear from me. You probably passed my little group in the stairwell. We just want to get out of here, just like you.”
Again they eyed each other. This time one of them said, “I told you. I told you they were going to blow this place.”
Shut up,” said one of the guards in the middle. I figured he must be in charge.
Come on, Top,” the first guy said. “We don’t have much time.”
All right,” the leader said. “But we’re going to kill this ass, first.” He raised his gun, and I felt like I’d run out of options. They all wore the copper-lined helmets—my psychic gift would be useless.
I yelled out to my zombies in a bottom-of-the-barrel attempt, “Get them.”
The few of my night-shirted morons that I could see standing on the other side of the stairwell doorway window stood motionless, but it bought me a second as “Top” glanced back toward my group of blanks.
His head cocked and he grinned. He turned back to me, his rifle barrel aimed at my chest.
*  *  *
Fast forward, Harvey says.
And I go into future mode.
The world is in slow motion. Although my thoughts shift to high gear, I cannot move faster than my adversaries. But I see their movements in advance and know when they will make them.
As the gunman squeezes the trigger, I lurch to one side. Two bullets exit the muzzle of his gun, spinning out with smoke and nitrate debris. My body edges to the side, feeling as cumbersome as a huge aircraft carrier, and the tiny missiles, like torpedoes in the water, come at me. The first will clearly miss. The second bullet becomes a tremendous concern, for I see its green tip and know that the leader’s weapon is loaded with armor-piercing rounds. Guessing what I now wore was likely the latest generation of armor, it still wouldn’t guarantee against penetration from a zippy little 5.56 X 45 mm round at close range, let alone armor piercing. Ten feet away, I twist my torso, a fast jerk in real time, a snail’s crawl in my fast-forward vision. And the projectile zips to me, my side twisting back mere centimeters to avoid it, and it strikes me. The bullet enters the body armor, and although the blood is yet to flow, the blazing pain yet to be felt, I know that it has found flesh.
Hoping it has not ruptured a vital organ, I continue the twisting into a spin, getting out of my assailant’s aim, then leaping toward the initial gunman.
The entire group begins to bring their guns to bear on me.

GFP Book Tour & Kindle Giveaway - A Ghost of a Chance by Minnette Meador

Minnette Meador

Welcome to the Round Table Minnette.  May I offer you a beverage before we begin?
Tantalizing Tea.

Great choice, enjoy. Thank you so much for taking time to chat with me today.  It's so nice to have you at the Round Table.

BK:  What inspired you to pen this novel?
M: I've always wanted to write a comedy and this was a natural. Keenan is such a sympathetic character, as a writer, you really want to get him in as much trouble as you can, just to see how he digs his way out.

BK: What inspired your book to be a series?
M: It was a natural decision. Since the cambion has been conceived here, it was natural to follow the creature through his life.

"The succubus seduces a man, collects his seed, and transfers it to an incubus who changes it and delivers it to a human female. Seems to me that would just produce your garden-variety human offspring, but apparently not. The child born to the woman is called a cambion.” A shadow of a warm smile touched Reggie's ghostly lips. “Now, these little fellows are really something… ugly as sin when born, no breath or heartbeat, but it runs around like the very dickens for the first seven years or so. Then it becomes increasingly difficult to differentiate one from a human. A cambion eventually becomes devilishly cunning with the face of an angel. Persuasive too. Can talk a saint into dropping his drawers on Sunday and a nun into giving up her habit.” A GHOST OF A CHANCE - Chapter Three - Inbibbing Spirits

BK: How difficult is it to write a series?
M: Series are always difficult, I think. This is my third and it might be a little easier than the last two. You have to think of it as a very long book.

BK Who is your favorite character?  Which one would you most likely invite to dinner?
M: I love Keenan, but I think the most interesting character is his best friend, Reggie. He smooth, he's English, he's sexy, and he's a ghost.

BK: How did you come up with the title for your series?
M: The original working title was Keenan's Dilema, but I didn't think that caught the spirit (excuse the pun) of the the book. So, I came up with a list of alternatives and ran them by my friends at Rose City Romance. A Ghost of a Chance was the winner by a large margin.

Fun Facts:

BK:  Fantasy or Horror?

BK:  Day or Night?

BK:  Favorite Drink?

BK:  Favorite Movie?

He seems to be a big time favorite of many :).

BK:  Favorite Song?

BK:  Sometimes while reading a book we visualize a certain actor/actress playing the part.  If your book were being made into a movie,  which actor or actresses do you see playing the part(s)?

Survival training at the top of Mt. Hood for three days with nothing but a knife.

BK:  If someone could describe you in one word,  what would it be?

I love that! What a great description and kudos to you. I think I could use you a lot lol.

Keenan Swanson is your typical, everyday graphic designer. Well, except for the hundreds of pesky, prank-loving poltergeists that make his life interesting (in a Chinese curse sort of way). He finds his situation precarious yet manageable—until witty, smoking-hot coworker Isabella enters the scene and Keenan decides he wants her all for himself. With a horny succubus who has other ideas, a burly city cop determined to lock Keenan away, and an evil entity who’s hell-bent on using Keenan’s seed to create a living demon, the reluctant psychic realizes he just might not come out of this alive—or with heart intact.

Hands slithered over Keenan’s body, but they were detached somehow. It was hard to describe. Starting on his scalp, the hot tickling sensation sent tendrils of pleasure down his gut and directly into his cock. It was painfully erect, aching for a good hard squeeze, but he couldn’t reach down to touch it.

A weight pressed down on his body, holding him to the bed. Keenan could actually feel his body sinking into the mattress. Something heavy, like invisible clay, pressed against his face. He couldn’t move. He wasn’t scared at all…just horny as hell.

The hands massaging his scalp moved down to his face, pressing his eyes closed with what he could only assume must have been thumbs. They moved down his face and found his lips, parted them, and thrust a slender finger into his mouth. There was no taste, but the soft, warm texture electrified his senses. He sucked on it instinctively. It was deeply sexual and made his cock throb in anticipation. To his utter dismay the finger slipped from his mouth and trailed down his chin.

Keenan opened his eyes. Light from an outside streetlamp illuminated the foot of his bed and half his dresser. When she appeared in a wisp at his feet, he had to struggle to lift his head enough to see her.

Naked heaving breasts came into view; the nipples were long, slate hard, and the areolas black against dark skin. Her waist and hips were slim. Stretched fingers pinched the nipples, making them longer, more rigid. The triangle of her pussy was bald, the slit dark and inviting. Hazy clouds covered her face, making it soft and featureless, but billowing tendrils of black hair twisted out from around it, flowing in a wind Keenan couldn’t hear. It moved in a watery dance.

The covers glided slowly down his body. The soft touch of the silk made his cock twinge in agony and he gritted his teeth to hiss his pleasure. Electric shocks ignited the nerves in his neck, shoulders, and arms. When Keenan was completely exposed, he wasn’t cold. His cock sprang into ready position. The hair on his arms and legs snapped with static.

Thank you so much for being at the Round Table today.  It's been such a pleasure chatting with you and I wish you much success in the future.

Thank you so much for inviting me. It's been a blast! M:o)

Let's meet Katie:

I am Super Mom!
Endowed with special powers and abilities, beyond those of mortal women,  I can get the munchkin off to gymnastics, cheerleading, Girl Scouts, and swim lessons.  I can put hot food on the table for dinner while assisting with homework, baths, and bedtime… And, I still find time to keep the hubby happy (nudge nudge wink wink). I can do all of this and still have time to write my novels.

Sorry… I can’t even write that with a straight face.

Lies all lies.

Here’s the reality. I’m a sleep-deprived, overworked, mom who just doesn’t know the meaning of the word balance. I try so hard to do it all, (be super mom, wife, & author) and at the end of the day I fall face forward into the couch.

Yes, you read that right, I tend to sleep on the couch. It’s a point of frustration for my hubby and a thing of comedy for my daughter. Imagine waking up to your little child yelling, “Mom slept on the couch again!!!”
Because being supermom (or trying to) means a lot of time devoted to family, writing is often done when said family is peacefully snoozing away. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve fallen asleep with my laptop, on the couch. It just happens. Then, bright and early at 7am either my hubby (on his way to work) or my daughter (getting ready for school) wakes me up.

Writing is my passion. It’s a part of me. More than just a hobby, it’s a compulsion. I have to do it. If I don’t do at least one writing related thing each day I get cranky.

Hopefully, my passion can be your entertainment!

Over the last two years I have written and published (via my publishing company, Rising Sign Books):

BK: How does it feel to have published your 3rd book in the Immortalis Series?
KS: Thrilling. When I started writing this series, I did not expect it to keep going. But as I finished one book, another idea would pop into my head. Then another, and another. These characters have become so real to me. They have their own lives and telling their stories is so much fun.

BK: What is it like in a day of writing for Katie Salidas?
KS: Every day is different. And forget about scheduling anything. Anytime I try to plan something, it falls apart. LoL. For the most part my life is like my writing, I’m a pantser. I do everything by the seat of my pants. LoL. When my daughter is in school, I try to squeeze in any writing time that I can. When she is in bed, the same applies. But when she is home, or when my hubby is home, it’s all about the family. Needless to say, especially this summer, while they are both home, I have not gotten much writing work done. LoL.

BK: Do you have any quirks while you write? A song playlist or a must have?
KS: Not a specific playlist. I have a collection of songs that I know by heart. I can’t listen to new music when I write. It’s just too distracting. I’m a bit ADD and will try to learn the lyrics of any new song. Weird, I know. Anyway, for writing, I have to have older music. Songs I know and don’t have to pay such close attention to. That way I can “feel” the mood of the music and allow that to help me get into the writing mood. I hope that makes sense. Basically, I like hard rock for action scenes, and softer more melodic pieces for romantic scenes. As for general music taste… I’m very eclectic!

BK: Who would you say is your favorite character out of all 3 books published so far?
KS: I truly love the Nicholas character. He Is just so much fun to write because his is aggressive, argumentative, annoying, and often mean, but… he’s a good guy. He’s the guy you want on your side in a fight. Characters like that, the ones you love to hate, are my favorite!

BK: We often see movie stars in our minds as our characters develop. Who do you see playing your characters and why?
KS: Oh I’ve done this a few times and it is so much fun to play this game. The last time I played “the Hollywood game,” on facebook, with the fans, we came up with this list:

Marguerite Moreau - Alyssa
Alex O'Loughlin – Lysander
Eric Bana – Nicholas
Keira Knightley – Fallon
Vinnie Jones – Santino

BK: Out of all 3 books, which was your favorite to write and why?
KS: It’s so hard to pick a favorite. Seriously, it’s like choosing a favorite kid. The way I always say it is this, My favorite is always the one I am working on. So for now, book 4 is my favorite.

BK: How did this series come into play? What made you decide to make it a series at all?
KS: Really, the story decided it would be a series. I wrote the original, Immortalis thinking it would be a standalone book. But while writing it, I had ideas for Hunters and Prey. Then, as I wrote Hunters & Prey I had ideas for Pandora. It really made a series out of itself.

BK: Character development is often a major process for any writer. What is your process for developing your characters?
KS: I like to really make sure I know each characters history. Beyond just building a complete character with it, I love to weave that history into the story and make it a part of the plot. In Immortalis Carpe Noctem, you learn Lysander’s history, along with Alyssa’s. As the series progresses, more of the side characters histories come out. You see how everything comes together and how and why certain supernatural creatures are the way they are. Some of those history lessons you get are the clues to what comes next.

BK: What does the future hold for the Immortalis Series and for Katie Salidas?
KS: The sky is the limit. As long as Alyssa continues to stumble through immortality, I’ll keep writing her story. I would love it to have the longevity of other popular vampire series out there.

BK: Where can readers find out more about your work?
KS: If you want to check out my work, you can find me at

Becoming a vampire is easy. Living with the condition... that's the hard part.

Bleeding to death after brutal mugging, twenty-five year old Alyssa is rescued by the most unlikely hero: the handsome and aloof vampire, Lysander.

His gift of immortal blood initiates Alyssa into a frightening, eternally dark world filled with: bloodlust, religious fanaticism, and thousand-year old vendettas.

With Lysander as her guide, Alyssa will have to learn what it takes to survive in the immortal world. She'll have to find the strength to accept her new reality and carpe noctem; or give in, and submit to final death.

Hunters & Prey (Book 2)

Becoming a vampire saved Alyssa from death, but the price was high: the loss of everything and everyone attached to her mortal life. She’s still learning to cope when a surprise confrontation with Santino Vitale, the Acta Sanctorum’s most fearsome hunter, sends her fleeing back to the world she once knew, and Fallon, the friend she’s missed more than anything.

Alyssa breaks vampire law by revealing her new, true self to her old friend, a fact which causes strong division in the group that should support her most: her clan.

Pandora’s Box (Book 3)

After a few months as a vampire, Alyssa thought she’d learned all she needed to know about the supernatural world. But her confidence is shattered by the delivery of a mysterious package – a Pandora’s Box.

Seemingly innocuous, the box is in reality an ancient prison, generated by a magic more powerful than anyone in her clan has ever known. But what manner of evil could need such force to contain it?
When the box is opened, the sinister creature within is released, and only supernatural blood will satiate its thirst. The clan soon learns how it feels when the hunter becomes the hunted.

Powerless against the ancient evil, the clan flees Las Vegas for Boston, with only a slim hope for salvation. Could Lysander’s old journals hold the key? And what if they don’t?

And how welcome will they be in a city run by a whole different kind of supernatural being?
