Book Review: Submission Therapy by Katie Salidas and Willsin Rowe

Submission Therapy…just what the doctor ordered, and just what was needed.

Natasha is a successful businesswoman, and with that comes a lot of responsibility. In that responsibility, it’s easy for one to get lost in the pressures of daily life, and deadlines to meet. She becomes a witch with a B. You know the ones. They think they are above everyone just because they don’t have the same status.

My favorite quote to give you an idea of Natasha’s attitude – “Have I been permitted to give a f**k? Because that one’s way down on my to-do list.” Loved it!

When her therapist, Derek Benson feels there is no other alternative for Natasha, he gives her no choice but to attend “Radical Therapy”. When she tries to refuse, he tells her she does it, or loses him forever. Does she really want to lose him? No. There is no other therapist that will tolerate her. She’s been through them all, and Derek is her last chance to fix herself. She thinks she’s going to just go through the motions, taking control and leaving, but when she is the one being controlled, it’s amazing to watch the transformation.

I have to say this is the first book in a long time where I wasn’t constantly pushing the screen on my Kindle to see how far I was and how much I had to go before I was to the end. It was over before I was ready, and left me anxiously waiting for the next installment to this series. Rowe and Salidas draw you into the story, connecting you with characters that you find yourself talking to, hoping for their future to turn around. Great team of writers and a great outcome.

My Thoughts:

The Bull Years by Phil Stern, I have to say was way better than I expected. We are given the point of view of  four characters after Steve Levine has contacted old buddies from his past to participate in the "Life Project". We learn about each of them as we are taken into their pasts and follow them into their now.

So true to life, anyone will be able to relate to this novel. I enjoyed each character and I have to say that it even had me wondering "At What Point Have You Officially Not Made It?"

This story flowed nicely and at a quick pace. I never felt like I was lost even though we see many different point of views. The ending of the book was the best and surprising. I won't spoil it for you but you've got to read it to find out! What are you waiting for? It's $.99 on Amazon right now. Go get it and read, read, read!

Review - The Evil Within Anthology

The Evil Within Anthology

The Evil Within, the first Indie Book Collective Anthology, written by Amber Scott, Cristyn West, Kelli McCracken, Matt Posner, Patricia McCallum, and Elena Gray is a fantastic, "fear fest" compilation. I was able to read this quickly and was completely enthralled from beginning to end.

Dirt Nap by Amber Scott: Buried Alive? When Darby wakes to find herself wrapped in plastic surrounded by dirt, she doesn't let panic set in, knowing her oxygen is limited. After breaking free, the confusion sets in and she calls her best friend. As the memories unfold, she learns the truth of what happened, and of Zombies. *grins*

Dark Lullaby by Cristyn West: I just loved this one. When a twelve year old is being stalked by a serial killer, a world reknown profiler steps in to solve the case. Murder hits a little too close to home before the clues are fully clear. Awesome!

Screaming Skin by Matt Posner: One heck of an imagination that left my own skin crawling. Exactly how things can go wrong in the research industry. Brilliant!

The Face of Evil by Kelli McCracken: Sometimes Churches hold the evil within. Leslie knew there was something odd about this church, but when a demon tries to take her soul, she got more than she bargained for just being a cleaning lady. *Demons Beware*

Coffee Shop by Patricia McCallum: This one had me wondering. A beautiful young girl falls for gorgeous guy. They meet everyday in this coffee shop where he walks Rose home. The curiosity begins when this man proposes, but doesn't want her to tell anyone, "yet". Hmmm. Wonder why that is. Then WHAM! Sure enough he comes in with another girl, and completely ignores Rose. She's left with no choice but to infuse her rage into his Latte. Ooops, Rose isn't exactly who she seems to be neither! What a surprising ending, so not what I was expecting.

There Are No Monsters by Rachel Thompson: What can I say? I didn't know Rachel had it in her, but boy she did, and she didn't disappoint me neither. Sasha has just watched her fiance' kill himself in a gruesome way. Sent to a psych ward, she meets Dr. Charlie. Working through the monsters from her past, surprising revelations are made and the truth is found; there are indeed monsters! Phenomenal! Another great twist at the end to have your mind reeling *heehee*.

Highland Chills by Elena Gray: This is one that was so captivating, I actually would love to see this as a full out novel. From falling in love with ghosts to possession, oh yeah! I'm so hungry for more!

Supper by Cristyn West: Holy-Throw-Me-Right-Into-A-Wrong-Turn-Movie! I loved this. My stomach was actually turning as I envisioned this supper, and could so see it playing out in my mind's eye. In my head I was screaming, "Don't eat it! Just Don't!" Awesome ending too. Could so see this one in a movie, for sure!

The overall theme of this book couldn't have been said better than by the title itself. The Evil Within is a brilliant compilation of gory, get your heart pumping stories. I strongly recommend this book! Once you get your hands on it, you will see exactly what I mean.

Hunters & Prey by Katie Salidas - Review

Hunters & Prey (Book 2 in the Immortalis Series)

My Review:

Hunters & Prey by Katie Salidas was a fantastic addition to this series. Alyssa is having repeated nightmares about their worst enemy, Santino, who belongs to the Acta Sanctorum. This group wishes to rid the world of vampires, deeming them monsters and killers. Lysander brushes her dreams off as stress related, that is until the enemy hits a little too close to home.


While Alyssa is hunting, Santino confronts her sending her running for safety. Fearing he would follow her, she doesn't want to lead him to their home putting the rest of the clan in danger. She has no choice but to flee to the very Cafe' she was forbidden to return to.


Now involving her best friend Fallon, trouble has only just begun. When Fallon is kidnapped at the hands of the enemy, Alyssa risks everything to save her, including her life. What they never expected was to gain help from the very man they feared. Who will be the ones to make it out alive?


Salidas did a great job with this installation. I loved that we saw the enemy with no choice but to help out Lysander and the clan. There were plenty of twists to keep you turning the pages and you were left wondering if new vampires would be created and who would still be alive in the end. The best part was how much we see Lysander's and Alyssa's relationship grow, her now deeming the right to her standing in the clan. 


I definitely give Hunters & Prey 5 Flaming Stars!

Zane's Redemption by Tina Folsom - Review

You all know I've been waiting for this book since the second book in the series. It's finally here and I didn't wait one second to go out and buy it! OMG am I glad I didn't wait!

Zane's Redemption by Tina Folsom was another brilliant, and when I say brilliant, I mean BRILLIANT, addition to the Scanguards series!!

Zane is a crazy vampire that has no thoughts about inflicting pain upon people, especially when it's to help his boss at Scanguards where he works as a bodyguard.  After killing a would be rapist, he is punished for his brutality by his boss Samson Woodford, by being placed on a "babysitting" job.

Zane is furious with being placed on such a demeaning job, but knows he cannot live without his family and obides by Samson's terms, including taking a puppy into his home as well. Can big, bad ass Zane be softened by a puppy?

Portia Lewis is a hybrid, half vampire half human, loved and sheltered by her father her entire life. She is about to come into adulthood on her twenty first birthday where her body will stay the same the rest of her life. When her best friend Lauren, also a hybrid, tells her she must lose her virginity before then or be destined to pain over and over again, Portia sets out to do just that.

When Zane meets Portia for the first time, neither of them can deny there is a connection. Zane is not happy about his new charge, or the fact that he'd like to do more than just guard her. As they grow closer, Zane learns of what her father is doing to her, and vows to help her. Breaking all the rules he's vowed to uphold, he whisks Portia away to a private location, and the hunt begins. Samson is pissed that Zane would break a clients trust and begins to use all his resources to find them.

In the meantime, Portia and Zane grow closer, and as she breaks through his walls, his heart starts to soften as they fall in love. After taking her virginity, and don't think for a minute Folsom left out the steamy sex scenes, Portia notices a tattoo on Zane's arm. Unable to control his feelings, he breaks down and tells her of his past, and torture he endured from a concentration camp at the hands of an evil doctor. Over 60 decades he's hunted the men that ruined his life, turned him into a vampire and killed his family. All but one, are dead. Crying for the man she loves and the pain he's endured, Zane can't understand why she's not running away. It's wonderful to see such a hard man be reduced to such softness, to know that he's actually capable of love and I found myself very happy for Zane.

WHAM!!!!

Folsom throws in a surprise twist that I didn't even see coming! I have to say that I now think this is my favorite book of the entire series. It was well written and an OMG I-cannot-put-it-down kind of read. Zane and Portia are such a great fit for each other and it is just phenomenal! I LOVED IT! All of the characters were amazing and I can't wait to see what Folsom brings us next. I highly recommend this book and the entire series! Go get your hands on it, put it on your shelves or on your kindle, because this is one series you won't mind reading over and over again!

Review for Yvette's Haven by Tina Folsom

Yvette's Haven by Tina Folsom - awesome addition to the series. Again Folsom delivered, always giving more than you expected and providing an outstanding story.

Yvette. Yvette. Yvette. Did we ever think she would find love?

Sent to protect an upcoming movie star, Kimberly, after she becomes uncomfortable with Zane, (who'd have ever thought that?), Yvette escorts her to a premiere party. Making herself aware of her surroundings, Yvette meets a gorgeous man who entices her in more ways than one. What she doesn't understand is this gorgeous man, Haven, will soon become her kidnapper and has a few tricks up his sleeve to make it happen.

Haven and his brother Wesley have been searching for their little sister Katie since their mother's death. When Wesley finds himself in trouble and held captive by a witch named Bess, Haven - a bounty hunter - has no choice but to follow the witch's demands. Bess wants Kimberly and knows she's being guarded by vampires. Creating a concoction sure to deem a vampire unconcious, she sends Haven on his way letting him know that if he fails to deliver the goods, Wesley dies.

With surprising twists, amazing characters, and a story to keep you turning the pages, this was an amazing addition to the Scanguards Series. Folsom never lost Yvette's true personality during the process of her falling in love and that is what I love about her writing. Yvette is one hard core bad ass chic, and she still kicks butt even while falling for her true love.

I love this series, I have yet to hate a character they are all phenomenal, and now I cannot wait for Zane's story, the next installment. I'm very anxious to see how his story unfolds considering his personality and...let's say crazy quirk.

4.5 Flaming Roses for Raven's Kiss by Toni LoTempio

Raven's Kiss by Toni LoTempio was my second experience with Toni's writing and it was great. Every time I read her work I can't wait to see what else she's going to bring out.

Raven Grace is an angry shapeshifter. She was turned by a demon named Aega and her life mission is to find him and kill him so he can't do this to anyone else.

After her last capture with the Special Recovery Unit, her boss puts her on mandated personal time off. She is to take a break and get her anger under control.

Just when Raven is about to complain, she comes across another case that could lead her to the very demon she hunts. Before she can start the chase, she must do a little time travelling.

Learning how to cross worldly planes, she gets a peek of what and who she will be dealing with when she learns of Finn McPhea. Not only does her body heat rise at the mere glance of him, but now she must convince him that she wants to help put a stop to this demon, working by his side keeping her carnal desires in check.

I loved this story so much! I loved Raven from the very first introduction of her. She has such a kick ass attitude and I tend to lean towards those heroines, especially if they are a woman. You will fall in love with all of these characters and find yourself anxiously turning the pages to see how it all works out.

LoTempio's writing just keeps getting better and better. I can' t wait for her next release.

5 Flaming Stars for Amaury's Hellion by Tina Folsom

Amaury's Hellion is the second installment in Tina Folsom's Scanguard Vampires Series and it was exquisite!

One thing I can say is that each book in this series can very well stand alone. I've read this completely out of order and wasn't lost at all.

Amaury LeSang is a bodyguard for the Scanguards, run by his good friend and fellow vampire, Samson. 

Amaury lost his family after becoming a vampire, and now lives with a curse. He will never love or feel love again, but he can feel other people's emotions to such an extent that it literally causes him pain.

How does he curb it? Sex of course. Sex is the only thing that can ease the pain letting Amaury survive. He accepted his fate of never loving another, and keeps himself distanced from woman except to sex them to be pain free.

That is until he meets Nina.

Nina has been following the Scanguards to avenge her brothers death. She knows what they are and what they are capable of. She will kill Amaury if given the chance.

What she didn't expect when she confronted him was that her body would take over with needs she thought she would never feel. As feisty as she is, Amaury is intrigued by Nina, not only because she is playing hard to get, but he cannot sense any emotion from her either.

Folsom did a magnificent job with this title. You will fall in love with these characters and the plot is so strong you can't help but to turn the page.

I highly recommend this entire series and I can't wait to delve into the latest installment, Yvette's Haven.

                     

BLB Ebook Tours - Review of Beloved of the Fallen by Savannah Kline

Beloved of the Fallen by Savannah Kline was an enthralling read.  From murder to holy restoration this one is a definite page turner.

Valentin thought he could protect his charge,  a Destined,  by defying God's Will.  Saving Amaris from committing suicide,  God's Will is strong and Satan is stronger.  She faces a torturous death and Valentin is mortified.

Sent to join the rest of the Fallen,  Valentin finds himself deformed and stripped of his angelic beauty,  and a broken wing incarcerating him to Hell.

A new Destined has risen,  and Lucifer has big plans for her.  Valentin is forced to take on a new charge,  and though he feels his actions constitute eternity in Hell,  he is sent to Earth where he meets Kira Castlemaine.

Kira is mourning her father's death.  All in the plan of the 'Light House' members,  Kira is convinced to take her father's seat and become the next Congresswoman,  as "it's what her father would want."  Lucifer needs her in this position in order for his plans,  to create his own heaven,  to be effective.  He needs souls to stay strong,  and WWIII is just the way to obtain that power.

Valentin must keep a watchful eye over Kira,  and make sure plans go as intended.  He joins the campaign and helps Kira win the votes to make it as Congresswoman.  What he never expected was to fall in love with her.

Knowing that God's Will is the only way to be happy,  he decides to help Kira overcome the Fallen's plans and hopes to feel God's love once again.  Kira is a very intelligent woman though,  and she will figure out that there is an evil at work.  Can Valentin prove to Kira that his love is pure and find himself in God's good graces,  or will Lucifer prove to be more powerful creating his own heaven on Earth damning the souls of every human?

Kline did a fantastic job keeping the suspense alive.  I couldn't put this book down until I knew what happened in the end,  which was a very surprising ending.  It's a fast paced read with enough action to keep you turning the pages.  I absolutely loved Valentin,  feeling his struggles from beginning to end.  I loved this book!

I give Beloved of the Fallen 5 Flaming Roses.  If you love angels,  with a perfect mix of romance and suspense,  you will love this book.

Review & Best Seller for a Day - A Walk In The Snark by RachelintheOC

If you have not heard of Best Seller for a Day yet,  allow me to enlighten you.  Best Seller for a Day is where an author over at the Indie Book Collective is chosen to promote their book on Amazon for just 99cents throughout an entire day.  Always combined with other great books that you can get at a discount too,  I've found some pretty amazing books through this event.  Today the book chosen is A Walk in the Snark by RachelintheOC.  I was asked to review this book for this event,  and boy am I glad I agreed.  Check out my review.

Omg Funny!  I had not met Rachel prior to reading this book,  but if you want to read some crazy topics on men vs women,  then this is your book.  Rachel talks about the Man Code and Chick Speak,  giving us her insight to these two creatures that couldn't be more different from each other.  Her analogy is Men are from Seinfeld and Woman are from Friends.  I loved it!

Let me just tell you that Rachel holds nothing back in this fantastic read!  Very fast paced and she will have you rolling on the floor laughing with some of the crazy things she talks about.  If your easily offended maybe this book won't be for you,  but I will say that she gives enough insight for both men and women to enjoy it.

The Iron King by Julie Kagawa was awesome.  Full of action,  twists and unexpected turns I couldn't put this down until I was at the end. 

Meghan Chase was an outcast.  Always being picked on at school,  no real friends accept her friend from childhood,  Robbie. 

Robbie was a bit strange though,  never allowing Meghan to come to his house always with an excuse.  In all the years they have been friends,  Meghan has never even met his parents.  When a popular jock sends a mass message to all the kids at school,  embarrassing Meghan to no end,  Robbie comes to the rescue.  As a girl is teasing Meghan while Robbie is leading her to the bus,  he mumbles something incoherent,  but the outcome doesn't go unnoticed by Meghan.

Vowing to never return to school,  Meghan faces bigger problems when she gets home.  She finds her mother unconscious,  her little brother isn't her little brother.  The time has come for Robbie to tell Meghan the truth.

With all the glamour removed,  Meghan learns that Fairies actually exist.  Now she must accept what she has learned and save her little brother Ethan. 

Entering Nevernever was not exactly what she expected.  Everyone hunts her,  the half-breed child of the Summer Court King.  Not knowing what her true existence means,  she fights her way through the Nevernever,  fighting creatures that only exist in our dreams. 

Meeting a few "friends" along the way,  Meghan constantly finds herself bargaining her life away in order to save her brother.  Robbie,  actually Robin Goodfellow,  leads her through getting them into trouble and eventually leaving her in the hands of his worst enemy,  Ash. 

Ash has orders from his Queen to return the child,  Meghan,  to her court,  but Ash never expected to fall in love.  Now they face the torturous demons in search of her brother,  Meghan only wanting to return him to their home.

The thing is,  technology is getting in the way.  Now the dreams of humans is for better,  stronger machines,  and the creation of the Iron King is born.

Meghan is faced with the ultimate decision of all,  and must choose wisely in order to survive.  Will she follow the correct path?  Will love conquer all in the end?

Kagawa did such a fantastic job with The Iron King.  I found myself swept away into a world magnificently created.  Rooting for Robin and for love,  I couldn't put this book down until I was finished.  I loved it and can't wait to read the next in the series.
