Welcome to IAB. I'm so glad you could stop in today to chat. May I offer you a beverage? 

At the risk of murdering a quote, "I don't drink..... wine."

LOL, Now that we are settled in, let's get to know you better.

BK: Looking out the nearest window, describe the scene you see.

Framed in the window is a dry and bare backyard strewn with whatever the dogs have managed to liberate from the house. A garage stuffed with so many hobbies that car has never seen the inside dominiates the very back. Next to it lays the mummy mansion perched on its besser bricks and windows tight shut against the heat and dust of the drought stricken mining town. At the very edge of the frame, you can glimpse the pool fence that surrounds the cool oasis holding the spa and hammock.

BK: Tell us about your office. Is it a mess like mine, or is everything in its place?

Umm office, I am sure it is in there somwhere. The mummy mansion was pristine until gradually the lego, space models and board games moved in towards the only clear table.

BK: What is a must-have, such as coffee or a favorite pen, that you need to write?

To write, one needs time, an electronic device and snackage including Pepsi Max. Yes I will be seeking a sponsorship deal.

BK: Do you like to write in silence, or do you need music or background noise?

Music definitely helps though I have been known to write in a spectrum ranging from near vaccuum to busy fast food venue/town pool.

BK: Tell us a bit about your hero/heroine, and their development.

Lisa and Talkar arose from stories created to avoid playing with my younger sister and cousins. They grew to roleplaying friend, writing buddies and then to full blown beings that I could send out into the worlds around the Circle to play and wreak havok.

Lisa is an exiled princess from a race of escaped vampiric slaves hiding in the dimensions. Long raven dark hair as befits a named warrior, she has the lean graceful form of the dancer she is and the strong hands of a doctor. Not everyone can combine healing and exotic dancing but she does it quite well.

Talkar is her son, born out of the desire to thumb her nose at the Council. He is the charming rogue that saves them all.

BK: What is your unique twist that you've brought to your storyline?

Hmmm unique, not sure. My vampires are not undead, aliens and shapeshift more than most. My race are a matriarchy with the hero male and fighting for his rights. The "good guys" are only good in certain ways and quite enjoy being bad in others. Humans are often the villians. Sorry, can't really think of anything too unique.

BK: As a writer myself, I'm always curious how other writers get through stumble blocks. When you find a story not flowing, or a character trying to fight you, how do you correct it?

I go with it. If the character is fighting me, then inevitably I have it wrong. After all, they know who they are best. I let the character have their head. If I'm blocked, I think, what is the worst thing that can happen, abd do that.

BK: Using the letters of your first name as an acronym, describe your book...

Keep fighting, the Fates do not allow slackers to live on Shayton.

Always watch your back.

Run with it, if there is a chance for beauty and pleasure, grab it with both hands.

Enemies are everywhere, paronia merely shows you are paying attention.

Now is the best time to do anything.

BK: How did your writing journey begin?

Frequently being the "new kid", I found that kids will forgive almost anything if you can spin a good yarn. Eventually, I started writing the yarns down.

BK: Using the letters from the word, Summer, how would friends and family describe you?

Sum of Mum & mummer (as in actor)

BK: What is the craziest thing you've ever written about, whether it got published or not?

I did a website and literature for the Seahorse club which is a cross dressing group.

BK: Tell us one thing you've done in life, that readers would be most surprised to know.

I used to help my mother to deliver messages to our local politician Fast Bucks, by making sure the flag was run up that told the hippie commune where he lived to put their pants on before she got there.

BK: What can we expect from you in the future?

I am currently finishing off the fourth book in the Shaytonian Chronicles and the second comedy book based, very loosely, on my own life and that of my family.

Beach or Mountains? I come from the Northern Rivers, we have both, including semitropical rainforests and plains. I now live near the desert and I can definitely say, as beautiful as the colours are, I prefer watching the sea from a nice cliff face.

Painting the mythic vampire

The deep royal blue sky of the Italian Riviera provided the perfect backdrop to the posed woman. She was an otherworldly figure set amongst the ancient columns. Her softly accented voice broke the stillness. "Are you sure about this?"

She watched as he added a daub more paint, "I am sure. You said it yourself, the best way to deny something it is to say it is true."

"And what if the Council finds out?"

Alfredo dabbed on a different colour. Going by the look on his face, he still did not have the skin colour the exactly right colour of purple. It had been frustrating him all evening. There was a timeline that neither one of them had mentioned, but it loomed in their thoughts. He was getting older, and no one lived forever. His words dragged her out of the wave of sadness that swept through her. "This mythical Council of yours, what if they do notice the paintings? They are just paintings."

"The Council is no myth. They rule our world."

"I thought the King ruled your homeworld?"

Lisa started to shrug but remembered in time not to move from the pose. "His rule is absolute, so long as he leaves all the day to day decisions, like whether to exile his daughter to Earth, to the Council."

"And you, as this poor exiled waif are concerned that one of those 'day to day' decisions may be objecting to this painting?"

Lisa snorted at the sarcasm in his voice, knowing it was meant more to chide her out of the doldrums than anything else. "They defend of the safety of Shayton. They hold dear her anonymity. It keeps her from being destroyed by those that fear the different, which, my dear, you must agree describes most humans remarkably well."

Alfredo nodded, "And trust me, the picture of a masked dancer with obviously fake wings..." Lisa snorted again at this description of her body, "will ensure that any little slip ups like the one in Venice, will be seen as a publicity stunt and nothing else. Your Council will thank us."

Oh.My.God! Okay, let me start off by saying that through the entire book I was literally on the edge of my seat. The prologue opens with action, the first chapter is action, and I think only, maybe, one chapter may have slowed down!

I was chewing my nails as I worked my way through scenes, but in a VERY GOOD WAY! I can't tell you guys enough how much I LOVED this book! I couldn't get enough!

Nina is amazing and one Kick-Ass heroine! I totally loved her and Max, well who wouldn't want a hot, FBI agent knocking on their doorsteps? Whew!

Frankie was nothing short of "I want him for a BFF", oh man do I ever! Think about this...

You're half vampire half human, you can kick ass right along side an old vampire, and people look to you to help save their world! Yeah! That's what you get not to mention Nina rides a freakin' Triumph!

She ROCKS!

If you're looking for a fast paced, can't-put-it-down-until-you've-reached-the-end kind of book, then you are going to want this one in your Kindle, on your shelf, however it is you read! Greco is an amazing writer and I can not wait for the next book!

Tina: A Vampire’s Wine please.

There is your glass of wine Tina,  great choice *grin*.  Tina is the author of Vampire Erotica and you can see all the books she writes and find out more information at her website - Tina Folsom. 

First a little bit about Tina:

A native of Germany, Tina Folsom immigrated first to England in 1991 and then to the USA in 1999 where she lived in various large cities before she made San Francisco her permanent home.

While writing has always been her passion, the trained CPA knew she had to get a "real" job first. She now splits her time between a small Real Estate Brokerage she operates and her writing, while still finding time for her American husband and her many friends.

Tina is a member of the San Francisco Romance Writers of America. She also meets regularly with her two critique partners who write historical and paranormal romance.

BK: What inspired you to pen this novel?

Tina: My husband and I travel to Europe every other year to visit my family back in Germany. But since visiting family doesn’t really qualify as a vacation, we always add another country into the mix. So, after visiting my parents in Germany in October last year, we took the train down to Italy. I’d been to Venice before - twice in fact - but for some reason, this visit was different. Maybe it was because this time I was with my husband and it was a very romantic trip.

One night, we got hopelessly lost. It was dark and the further we walked, the more deserted the area became. We had no idea where we were. I had a map, of course, but you try and find a tiny street name on an even tinier map. It’s hopeless. My Italian language skills amount to being able to order food, but somehow I managed to ask a young man, who turned out to be Lebanese, to show us on the map where we were. Turned out that we were hopelessly lost in Castello, a residential area of Venice. The man was so nice to walk with us for a few blocks to lead us to the right bridge and toward the right area so that we managed to get back to our hotel.

But while we were walking, I could really feel the shadows on us, the dark, the secrets of the city. I decided there and then that Venice was the perfect place for a vampire novel.

BK: What draws you to write in this genre?

Tina: I just love everything dark and goth. I think it’s because the creatures of the dark are the things I fear most. I used to jump into bed when I was a kid, because I was afraid if I just climbed in, somebody from underneath it would grab my leg and pull me under. While I now know what’s really under my bed (a bunch of dust), I still have that fear of the dark. It’s almost an obsession to write about it, because in my books I can create heroines who have no fear. I can be brave in a book.

BK: How do you keep your writing different from all the other novels in this genre?

Tina: I think that’s a really hard thing to do. When I compare my books to those of other authors in the genre, I see that many have very intricate plots and lots of supporting characters. I try to limit that a little - particularly in a novella - so that I can really concentrate on the romance. I also really turn up the heat level in my books, more so than others who write paranormal romance. I think only true erotica is probably hotter. It’s what I like my books to be known for: a really hot read with a satisfying ending.

BK: Who is your favorite character and why?

Tina: Considering that there are only a few characters in Venice Vampyr, I must choose Raphael. I love alpha heroes especially when they come with fangs. And I also like men who show their vulnerability and aren’t afraid of it. That’s what Raphael does in the bondage scene.

BK: What is your favorite part about writing?

Tina: I love plotting. You should see my boards in my home office. They are all laid out in eight sequences just like a movie is. Then I pop scenes into the various sections, and slowly, but surely, a book emerges. Once I’ve plotted the book, the hard work is done. Now it’s the writing. And when it comes to writing, I do love writing the love scenes. So, there are actually two favorite things for me: plotting and writing love scenes.

BK: Did you learn anything about yourself as a result of writing this novel?

Tina: The less I have to worry about a complicated plot and allow the characters to take over, the more words I can write really quickly, and the hotter I can allow the novel to become. That’s what happened with Venice Vampyr: I wrote the entire novella in two weeks, when normally it would take me about double the time to write 30,000 words.

BK: Are you currently working on any projects?

Tina: Yes, frankly, there isn’t ever a time I’m not working on another book. At the moment, I’m writing book #4 of the Scanguards Vampires series. It’ll be Yvette’s story. The plot is a little more involved, so the writing is going a bit slower at the moment. Once I get to the sex scenes, I’m sure it’ll all flow a little faster.

BK: Any advice for new aspiring authors?

Tina: Get a couple of critique partners, join the professional organization for your genre, and write as much as you can. A lot of it is practice and learning from your mistakes. Listen to what other people tell you about your writing. Not everything might be useful, but you can often filter out what will help you grow. I work with two fantastic critique partners who have helped me tremendously improve my plots and characters. As a writer you are just too close to your story, and you often don’t see the glaring problems.

Tandem by Tracey Bateman was definitely not what I expected. This is my first experience with Tracey and I must say I'm very curious to read her book Thirsty now too.

When I first picked up this book, I thought it was going to just be a murder/mystery novel. To my surprise, it was a paranormal suspense. A nice surprise it was too.

Lauryn McBride is a daddy's girl. She's lived her entire life around her father, even getting into the auction business to be close to him.

Now that he's developed Alzheimer's, she continues on with the business, but also moves into the caregiver role as well. Having good days and bad days, Lauryn revolves her entire existence to being there for her dad.

As she gets the Chasom house ready for auction, cataloging and pricing all the belongings inside, an old flame returns to town. Billy left without word to follow his heart as a missionary. Now he returns with a daughter, and Lauryn just isn't sure how to deal with it all. She's never allowed herself time to date, and now she feels all these emotions returning from when Billy first left.

Her good friend and sheriff, Charley tries to forewarn her that Billy's returned, but not before she runs into him. Charley also runs the only Inn in town, and this is where we meet Amede Dastillion, the sister of the woman who died along with the owner of the Chasom House in a fire. It's this house that becomes key into plot of this title.

With the return of Billy, and the new mysterious Amede, a series of murders are taking place along with several dead animals being drained of blood. The town becomes fearful as they investigate to solve these horrible crimes.

There is one local, Miranda, that believes that the crimes are caused by vampires. As the investigation goes on, Amede starts acting peculiar, as she senses her sisters presence. What they all are surprised by though is who is actually committing the crimes. Someone they all thought they could trust.

Bateman did a great job with the element of surprise. The suspense was fantastic as you continually find yourself guessing as to who the perp is. Then you find yourself feeling for Lauryn as she deals with her father, and also her life.

Bateman gives you the thoughts of several characters throughout the book, allowing you a glimpse into what is actually going on in this town. I was definitely surprised at the end of this book, and I'm sure you will be too.

Please tell us a little bit about yourself...

This is the one question I have the hardest time with. Any other topic, and I can talk for hours.
Haha! Well.. I’m a stay at home, of two beautiful little boys. I’m married to my best friend, and
The love of my life, who is patient (Most of the time) and loving, who allows me to recluse into
My imagination when I need to, at any hour of the day or night, for as long as I need to, to get
The next chapter on paper.


What inspired you to pen your first novel?

I used to role play online, on a few different forums. It was the stories that we came up with as a group, that inspired me to put pen to paper.    

Role playing?  Now that is very interesting.


Have you always wanted to be a writer?

I think so. Writing became a very powerful outlet for me, in my early teens, when I didn’t
Otherwise have a voice of my own. It wasn’t long before I realized that I not only had a
Knack for it, but I really loved it as well.


Tell us a little about NyteBeauti...
  
NyteBeauti was the culmination of many years of role play, dreams, fantasies, and even one or
Two personal heartbreaks, all combined together to create the story of Desta, and her search for Identity, acceptance, and eventually, true love.

How did you come up with your characters?

Most of the characters were created using a Role play character sheet, to give them their basic
Attributes, weakness, abilities, etc. Some I came up based on that. Others were inspired by a
Picture, or a piece of art I saw online. (Usually Luis Royo or other Fantasy Artists.) Morrigan was actually “born” first. She was to be completely different from who she turned out to be. The strong , feisty Irish woman, was never meant to become a vampire, and yet she’s become the break out character, because of what, and who, she is.

The rest, were characters I ran into, or created for atmosphere purposes. Some I fell in love with
Enough to create their histories and give them a future. Other’s remained ‘eye candy’ with a
Specific purpose of propelling a storyline along.


How did Desta come to be?

Desta, believe it or not, was simply meant to be an expendable, gateway character. She started
Out as nothing more than a dying body, at the bottom of the stairs. She was created for the sole
Purpose and nothing more, than to pass a message to Logan. Haha. But the scene was just so
Heartbreaking, and so emotional, I had to keep her. So, I rewrote her a bit, and reinvented her
History, and thus, Lady Desta was born.
I am so glad you didn't off her,  so to speak.  Even though Morrigan tends to be the one I lean to more as a favorite character,  Desta definitely helps make the story.


How did you develop your plot?

Through the role play of the characters, I was able to tweak and adjust different aspects of each
Character. Once they were complete, it was a pretty easy process. They told their own stories. I
Was simply their voice.


Was there a lot of research involved?

There was, actually. Between time periods, to accurately describe their attire, maps to
Accurately describe villages or regions. Even vampire lore, so that I didn’t cross ‘too many’ lines
In trying to keep some originality with my own breed of vampires. I wanted them to be familiar,
So that my readers could identify and say, “Oh yeah, I knew that.” But at the same time, not
Give them a churned up, mulchified version of something they’ve already read.


Why Vampires?  What draws you to write in this genre?

Honestly? Obsession. I love all things vampire, supernatural and preternatural. It started with
Anne Rice, and my initial mental image of Louis. After that, I was hooked. I loved how Louis,
Lestat, Claudia and Armand could bring out so many different emotions all in the course of
A half hour, and how I could releate to each one, in their own little way. Vampires also opened up
The door to allow me to explore different time periods, without being locked into a “Historical
Romance’ genre writer.


How do you keep your writing different from all the other novels in this particular genre?

I stick to what I know. My Characters. It’s starting to become apparent to everyone who’s
Been able to read bits and pieces that this isn’t first and foremost, a Vampire Story. It’s a
Story about people, who just happen to be vampires. Instead of focusing on their vampirism,
I focus on what motivates them, what moves them, what propels them forward, and that
Seems to work for my little ragtag bunch of vampires. 


What was the hardest part about writing this particular novel?
  
Wow. I think the hardest part for me, was remembering to not go off on tangents, or commentary
About the individual characters, and their behaviors. In otherwords, trying to keep in my role as pure storyteller, without my own emotion and thoughts embedded in the story. I am simply here To tell their story, not comment on it.


What dreams have been realized as a result of writing NyteBeauti?

I have an actual and honest to God real book in my hand, that has MY words on the pages. I
Have something that I can pass to my boys, something tangible, that I can say to them, “Look,
I had a dream, and with hard work, and perseverance, I made it come true. So can you.” 
What a wonderful thing to be able to pass on and prove that you can do anything you put your mind to.


If you could possess any Vampire power,  what would it be?

Oh my. My husband and I have had this discussion many times. Haha! I’m currently at a toss up
Between two lesser known disciplines. Melpominee and Temporis. 
For those unsure of the terms Kristin used,  Melpominee is the ability to speak to the soul as well as to the ears,  sort of like throwing your voice,  it can enlighten or damage.
Temporis is about controlling time,  which may come in handy when a Vampire is seducing one or trying to feed without the donor remembering what happened.   A day can last forever,  or fly by.


What do you hope your readers will take away from your book?

My greatest hope, is that they walk away, having as deep a love for these characters, as I do.
I hope that they finish the last chapter, wishing to know more about a particular character that I
Didn’t expand on. My last hope, is that there is a character out there for everyone. That everyone
Finds a single character that they can relate to, and say, “I know just how s/he feels!”
I know I love your characters,  so from my point of view you are well on your way to getting your hope.


What advice can you give to new aspiring writers?

Write what you know, not what is popular. Readers can tell if you’re passionate in what you write
About, or if you’re simply writing to jump on a bandwagon. And never let anyone tell you that
Your dreams are silly, or worthless.


Are you working on any projects right now?

Book Two, Echoes of Rayne is in the works right now. It continues with Desta’s tale, and
Introduces a couple of new characters, that I think my readers will REALLY love.

We’re currently in the process of setting up some local book signings, though no dates have been
Set as of yet. We are also in the midst of planning the Official book release party for this October.
It will be a few months “late” but everything has happened in such a whirlwind, that we’ve had no
Time to plan anything until now.
