Interview with Carla Susan Smith - A Vampire's Promise Book Tour & Giveaway

A Vampire’s Promise

The Vampire’s Promise Series
Book One
Carla Susan Smith

Welcome to IAB. I'm so glad you could stop in today to chat. May I offer you a beverage? (Please choose Vampire Wine, Witches Brew, Zombie Blast, or Magic Margarita)
Oh, Vampire Wine of course!

Now that we are settled in, let's get to know you better.

BK: Looking out the nearest window, describe the scene you see.
Crows walking across my front yard. Have you ever noticed how crows always seem to travel in threes? (You’re going to be looking - and counting - from now on, right?) I don’t know why, but I love crows. They’re very intelligent birds, and always look to me like they know something we don’t … but should.

BK: Tell us about your office. Is it a mess like mine, or is everything in its place?
Hah! I think the best description is “organized chaos”. The amazing thing is I kind of sort of know where to find most anything I’m looking for.

BK: What is a must-have, such as coffee or a favorite pen, that you need to write?
It’s a small plastic toy that my husband gave to me. An orange stegosaurus - Steggie - that sits on my laptop as I write.

BK: Do you like to write in silence, or do you need music or background noise?
Mostly silence because I get distracted too easily. The one time I wrote with music playing I found I had incorporated song lyrics into my story! I think it’s my brain telling me I suck at multi-tasking.

BK: Tell us a bit about your hero/heroine, and their development.
I wanted Rowan to be the girlfriend we either wanted to be, or wished we had. She’s fiercely loyal, non-judgmental and has a wicked sense of humor. I hope my readers will relate to her (understand and sympathize with her anxieties!) as she deals with the unexpected twists in her life. As for Gabriel, well, let’s just say he’s a gorgeous gift of seduction waiting to be unwrapped, but there’s definitely more to him than meets the eye.

BK: As a writer myself, I'm always curious how other writers get through stumble blocks. When you find a story not flowing, or a character trying to fight you, how do you correct it?
I close my laptop and get drunk! No, seriously if I’m stuck or something just isn’t flowing, then the best thing for me to do is to walk away from it or else I’m liable to delete the entire novel out of frustration. When I can go back and read everything with a new perspective - usually the next day - then there’s a good chance I can fix whatever I was having a problem with. But there are times when I have to say “Carla, this is absolute crap.” The only solution then is the delete key.

BK: Using the letters of your first name as an acronym, describe your book...
Oh, that’s hard, and right now I’m wishing my name was something other than Carla. Um… how about Compellingly Addictive Romantic Literary Appeal?
Too pretentious? Guess I should be thankful my parents didn’t give me a name that was ten letters long!

BK: How did your writing journey begin?
It was all because of a really bad romance novel doing the rounds in the office where I worked. I told my BFF that I could write something better, and she dared me to do just that. Never one to back down from a challenge, I wrote three chapters that night, brought them into work where they promptly got passed around before being returned to me at the end of the day with “Okay, what happens next?” scrawled in the margin. In the end I wrote a whopping “corsets & carriages” saga that was over 250 thousand words - and I still have it!

BK: Using the letters from the word, Summer, how would friends and family describe you?
Hahaha! I learned a long time ago not to put words in the mouths of those nearest and dearest to me. It can lead to all sorts of trouble!

BK: What is the craziest thing you've ever written about, whether it got published or not?
A story about gun-toting hedgehogs! (I’d just read ‘Watership Down’)

BK: Tell us one thing you've done in life, that readers would be most surprised to know.
I did a breakfast cereal commercial for English TV when I was about eight years old, and I hated every minute of it. Thank God my parents never made me do another one.

BK: What can we expect from you in the future?
I’m currently working on a third book for the Vampire’s Promise series (which I never thought was a series until my editor told me it was) and while I have ideas for other paranormal novels, I may just see where Rowan and Gabriel decide to take me. I have the feeling it’s going to be a great ride.

This or That...

Coke or Pepsi? Pepsi

Night Owl or Early Bird? Sadly my Night Owl has morphed into an Early Bird!

Fantasy or Mystery? Ooooh, definitely fantasy

Pen/Paper or Computer? Love the romance of pen & paper, but gotta accept the practicality of the computer.

Pizza or Burger? Both - but not at the same time!

Rock or Country? I have to choose? Aw, c’mon - can’t I love Hinder and Garth Brooks at the same time?

Chocolate or Vanilla? Vanilla ‘cause you can add so much more to it!

Beach or Mountains? Beach - for the sea not the sand.

Thank you so much for having us as one of your stops today. It has been great getting to know more about you and your book, and hope you will come back when the next release is out (*hinthint*)

Thank you for allowing me to introduce myself, and my work to you. It’s been great and I would love to come back.

Wishing you much success!

BK Walker

Trust Your Instincts

Rowan Harper is nothing but a smart-mouthed bookstore clerk with a crappy love life on the night she walks into Rosie’s Bar. Most of the drama in her life is borrowed from her best friend’s adventures. But when she meets Gabriel—tall and movie star gorgeous—everything changes. Never mind that she turns down the drink he offers, or that he brims with secrets she can’t begin to guess at. He ignites a desire in her she never suspected—and shows a fascination with her she can’t explain.

He has no family, no job, no bank account; he knows where she lives and her favorite flower. An aura of mystery cloaks him, even as Rowan grasps for facts, even as she fears an answer that could destroy her happiness. Gabriel can guide her through a wonderland of new sensations. But only if Rowan trusts him enough to follow…

Winner of the OKRWA “Finally a Bride” contest.

Excerpt:

I don’t want you to leave,” I told him, my voice a barely audible, husky whisper.
The shadow in his eyes vanished, replaced by something else. Whether it was relief or hope, I couldn’t say.
“Are you sure?” he murmured, taking a step toward me. “I need you to be certain that this – that I – am what you want.”
I had the sense that he was asking me something that went deeper, was more meaningful, but my brain had been through enough for one night. My ability to search for hidden meanings was temporarily lost, and it was more than ready to hitch a ride to Clueless Land. I wasn’t sure about anything, but I trusted my instincts. And they told me this was right. I belonged with Gabriel.
“The only things you can be certain about are death and taxes,” I said, giving him a wry grin, “but if you’re asking me to take a chance, then yes, I will – only,” I paused, “why would you think I wouldn’t want you?” He might not be able to pick up on every emotion I was throwing his way, but surely he could still read how I felt about him?
“Because I wonder,” he said, taking my hand, “if you went back to the very beginning, would you have come searching for me again?”
The silence between us was deafening, and the feeling of déjà vu returned. Only it didn’t feel so strange this time. Whatever Gabriel was referring to was hidden somewhere inside that feeling.
“I wish I knew what you were talking about,” I told him, “because I think it’s important, but I have to tell you that right now you’re making absolutely no sense.” Clueless Land was rapidly expanding into the continent of the Completely Lost in the Dark.
“You need to know the truth about me, Rowan, what I am -”
“No, I don’t, not right now.” I held up my hand and stopped him. I was balanced on a razor-thin wire, and it took all I had not to fall off. “There’s only one issue that’s important right now, and I need you to be truthful with me.”
“Of course, ask me anything.”
“Wife, girlfriend, or significant other?”
The sudden, utter confusion on his face made me want to laugh aloud.
“I don’t understand.”
“Do you have one?”
Gabriel shook his head of glorious white hair. “No, of course not.”
“Positive?”
He looked hurt that I was questioning his integrity. “Rowan, I’ve not wanted another woman since the first time I saw you. I never have.”
“That’s good to know,” I whispered.
He let go of my hand and clutched his forehead as though he’d just been afflicted with a brain freeze. Pursing his lips, he blew out a breath. For all intents and purposes, he looked like a man who desperately wanted to speak but was afraid his words would be the wrong ones.
Welcome to the club.
I didn’t want to waste any more time in pointless conversation. It would be an exercise in futility that accomplished nothing. What was about to happen between us right here, right now, was not going to be achieved with words. Unless they were all single syllables used for instructional purposes along with some heavy-duty physical contact. My hands literally itched to get beneath his wet clothing and touch his body.
Something in my life, my luckless romantic aspirations, my failure to successfully seduce a man, had all been pushing me toward this moment. Gabriel was to be my first, perhaps my only lover. I don’t know how I knew this or what turn of fate’s cosmic wheel made it so, but it was true. I had known it eighty-seven nights ago on my front porch, and the conviction was even stronger now. I made it to the staircase before Gabriel’s voice stopped me.
“Give yourself to me, Rowan, and you will take no other.”
I don’t know if other girls have experienced such a declaration, but it didn’t surprise me coming from him. I was almost expecting it, even if I wasn’t completely sure I understood all the implications. Gabriel was telling me exactly what was going to happen. What his intentions were, just in case I hadn’t been paying attention.
I heard myself reply, saying the words that would change my life forever. I just had no idea to what extent.
“Then make me want no other.”

About the Author:

Carla Susan Smith owes her love of literature to her mother, who, after catching her pre-teen daughter reading by flashlight beneath the bed covers, calmly replaced the romance book she had “borrowed” with one that was far less risqué, and much more appropriate! Though she was encouraged to include different genres in her reading tastes, romance - paranormal romance in particular - has always been her first love.

Born and raised in England, she now calls South Carolina home, where she lives with her wonderfully supportive husband, awesome son, and a canine critique group (if tails aren’t wagging then the story isn’t working!) When not writing, she can usually be found in the kitchen trying out any recipe that calls for rhubarb, working on her latest tapestry project or playing catch-up with her reading list.

Interview with Erotica Romance Author Jeané Sashi - Intimate Moments & The J Spot Tour & Giveaway

Author Bio: Have you noticed that everything you do and everything that you go through in life is a story waiting to be told? Whether it's fiction, fantasy, romance, humor, mystery, or non-fiction; your story can be told. Get the words out of your head...just write.

Jeané has been writing since she was in high school. Although she kept diaries, just as any teenager in high school, she didn't realize her writing potential until she entered and won the Mayor' Essay Award. She critiques and edits the writings of fellow authors. She herself is the author of two novels, "Intimate Moments" and "The J Spot".

Welcome to Immortality and Beyond. May I offer you a drink?

Thank you for inviting me to Immortality and Beyond. I would love a drink, Vampires Wine. I have to keep my head on straight while being interviewed.

Zar, our Zombie Butler will fetch that for you. Zar…

Thank you Zar

*Drools* while handing drink over…

*Rolling eyes* You may return to your quarters now. Please don’t mind him, sometimes he

just gets so excited when we have guest authors. He’s only ever bitten somebody once,

 *grins*.

Zar, is very tall and such a gentleman for a Zombie Butler.
Thank you, Zar.

I’m not worried about him biting, I bite back. *grinning*

Now that we’re settled in, let’s chat. Shall we?

Of course, let’s us chat.

BK: How did your writing journey begin?

My writing journey began after finding out that an old friend of mind had written a script that was being turned into a movie.

My thoughts were, “If he can write a script, then I can write a book.” That’s when the book came about.

BK: Please share with us how your current release came to life...

The J Spot is a spin-off of Intimate Moments. I had some more stories in my head and wanted to get it out. I had more characters to write about.

BK: Do you let your characters tell the story, or do you often fight with them on the

direction it will take?

My characters take on a mind of their own. I have a direction as to which way I want my characters to be portrayed but a twist occurs and my characters decide to take the reins and do things on their own. I just go with the flow.

BK: How do you keep your writing different from all the others that write in this particular

genre?

I try my best to tell a good story when writing erotic romance. That’s not to say that others don’t tell a good story but, I try to tell a beginning to end story with giving some backstory about each character. This lets the reader see how the character came to be.

BK: Which character was your favorite to write for in this story? Why?

In Intimate Moments, Marcus Anderson was my favorite to write. He is the underdog. He is gentle, sweet, caring, and seemed lost and confused. In The J Spot, Rhonda was my favorite to write. She is a woman that the word no means nothing to her. Her character will resurface in my third book, Check-Mate.

BK: Tell us about one scene you had the most fun writing…

The train scene in Intimate Moments was a lot of fun to write. I had to really use my imagination, relax my mind and let my thoughts go. That scene could be termed a voyeur scene due to the location of the characters.

BK: If you were stranded on an island, which character in your books would you most want

to be stranded with and why, and what is one thing that would be a must-have?

I enjoy the friendship of the ladies in Intimate Moments. They have a sisters bond. Being stranded with them would be fun and bring along the sisters in The J Spot would be extra fun. All five of those ladies would turn being stranded into one big party. Especially, Gisselle and Mina…two wild ones. We would have to have music and a lot of snacks and have some men somewhere in eye range.
BK: Now for a little fun, tell us a bit about what your office looks like. Do you need silence

to write?

I don’t need silence to write in. I usually have music playing in the background on top of the dogs barking. I can also write with the television on. The office has a desk with a desktop computer on it; a file cabinet to the left of it with the printer sitting on top. A bookcase filled with books is also to the left of the desk before the file cabinet. As you walk into the door of the office, the television sits on another cabinet. To the right of the desk is a chair. There is nothing blocking the picture window, and there are two blankets on the floor with two pillows and a fluffy chair for the dogs. I don’t use the PC often, I either writer from my laptop which sits on a cute computer table I purchased on Amazon in my bedroom sitting on the floor, but mostly I write from my iPad while sitting on the backyard patio.
BK: What do you like to do when you're not writing?

When I’m not writing, I like to read, listen to music, cook, play with the dogs, watch the Big Bang Theory (those guys are hilarious), or watch a movie on Lifetime.

BK: What is one thing your readers would be most surprised to learn about you?

I love to eat. Sweets are my downfall. Some people look at me and wonder where all the food goes. I guess I have a high metabolism, plus I enjoy walking.

BK: What is the craziest thing you’ve ever wanted to write, or have written, even if it never

reached public eyes?

I want to write a comical romance story about things. I’ve already started writing it. I write on it every now and then. I’m just letting the words come to me in comical fashion.

BK: What is one piece of advice you can give to aspiring writers/authors?

To all aspiring writers/authors, everyone has a story inside of them just waiting to come out. Whether it’s fiction or non-fiction. Let it out. Write it down on paper. Let a professional editor read it, look it over, and critique it. Friends and family can also read it, but will they tell you the truth? Some will some won’t. An editor will most definitely tell you truth. It may hurt at first but that’s par for the course. Also, be patient, sales will not come overnight. You have to put in the work to get the results you want.

BK: What can we expect from you in the future?

My next book is Check-Mate which I do hope to have out by the end of this summer. The book is overdue. I’ve been nurturing it too long. There are also two other books in the start phase that I want to get out by the end of this year. Be on the lookout.

BK: Where can readers connect with you?

Readers can connect with me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Foursquare, and LinkedIn under my name Jeané Elliott Bennett.
BK: Using your name as an acronym, please describe your book...

An acronym for my name, now that’s interesting.

J = Juicy S = Sexual
E= Exciting A =Arousing
A=Alluring S = Satisfying
N=Nasty H = Hot
E=Enticing I = Inviting
That was interesting to come up with words to make my name. I had never thought of that before.

Thank you for the interview. I really enjoyed it.

Thank you for taking time to chat with us :)

This was a lot of fun, especially you welcome. And Zar, your Zombie Butler is quite handsome.

Thank you. He appreciates you saying that.

Promotional Book Tour: Faelon by AJ Kelton

Faelon
by AJ Kelton

About The Author:

AJ Kelton are the dynamic writing team of Angel and Jordan. The couple met online several years ago on an Alexander fan site and have been friends ever since. Angel soon found that Jordan had a flare for storytelling with several half-finished stories on her computer. Angel encouraged Jordan to finish the stories and with help in creative description she decided to send the stories off to MLR press. They were both shocked and excited when they got the news that Faelon was accepted for publication. While Jordan may have a flare for storytelling she doesn’t enjoy the smaller details in getting a story ready for publication. That is where Angel comes in; she spends countless hours getting the story ready after line edits, going over each line in proofing and formatting, making decisions such as covers and fonts, all things that Jordan just has problems focusing on.

Angel is always on the lookout for her perfect mate, a cross between Ethan from Under the Australian Sky and Evan from Marco. Until Mr. Perfect appears at her door, or in front of her booth wanting an autograph she loves to read, take pictures and attend concerts of all kinds. She loves all things 80’s. Angel lives in Texas with her two dogs, Daisy a beagle who she insists is nothing like snoopy and her Chihuahua Bonita.

When not writing Jordan loves to read anything from Amish romance to the dark taboo books of fiction both M/M and Het. She is a very avid reader, except when writing because she doesn’t want to be influenced by what she is reading. Jordan loves to travel and often her latest vacation spots show up in his books. While Jordan is always looking for that perfect place to live at the moment she can be found in Kansas.

Both writers have solo projects coming out in the future, Angel with Misunderstandings under the name Angel Rothamel. Jordan with Legion under the name Rider Jacobs.

Both authors would love to hear from you. You can contact them via their web page AJKelton@AJKelton.com. You can also find them on Facebook under both AJ Kelton, Angel Rothamel and Rider Jacobs.

Genre: M/M Romance
Publisher: MLR Press
Release Date: April 5, 2013

Book Description:

Who knew that loving a Nephilim could be so dangerous. Faelon, a 3000-year-old nephilim, fleeing a demonic master, found safety with the church. He has repaid their kindness by translating various artifacts. Father Donovan has watched as Faelon became a recluse, fearing those who would harm him. Jax, wanting a change, moves to Salem, MA where he finds work as a churches security guard. Not believing that Faelon is a nephilim, he is forced to confront his own beliefs in the supernatural. Can he learn to accept Faelon, and be the master he requires? Or lose the man he loves to the demons who would harm him.

Excerpts:

*NOTE* Some Graphic Language

“I have been called many names in my life, but I don’t think ‘crazy-ass’ was one of them.” The man smiled at him.
You still haven’t answered my question.” Jax pulled out his cell phone. “You have exactly thirty seconds to tell me who you are and why you are here, or you’ll be explaining it to the police.”
The other man pushed off from the door and sauntered toward Jax. “There is no need to get the police involved. My name is Faelon, and I live in the basement where I happen to be cataloguing all those important items and translating those dusty old books into English. It isn’t the most exciting job in the world, but, hell, it keeps me a bit busy, and at this moment I find I’m enjoying it.”
You live in the basement?” Father Donavan mentioned that Faelon worked late at night, but he didn’t mention that the man actually lived down there. “Father Donavan didn’t mention that you lived in the basement.”
Faelon shoved his hands in the pockets of his leather jacket as he started toward the side door. “Yes, I have a small studio apartment down there. It’s why no one is allowed to enter the area without my express invitation. Ask Father Donavan tomorrow if you don’t believe me. I’m going out, grabbing a bite to eat, and maybe I’ll watch the water for a while. Tell me, is it warm out? Are the tourists here yet?”
Jax shrugged his shoulder. “It was a nice day for October and the tourists are always here, aren’t they? Especially this time of year?”
I find that they are, yes. As to why they would come to this place when there are so many others across this nation that hold just as much mysticism at a warmer temperature is beyond me. Until tomorrow, Mr. Security Guard,” he said as he started walking again.
Jax.”
Jax?” Faelon turned his head in inquiry.
My name, it’s Jax. At least that is what everyone calls me. It’s short for J-Jackson,” he stammered. He had no idea why he was rambling, other than the fact that Faelon was sexy as hell, and he wanted to speak to him just a little longer. There was something about the soft musical quality of his voice with just a trace of an accent that made Jax want to keep him talking.
Faelon gave a slight smile, and for a brief moment, Jax thought he had to be the hottest man alive. “Until tomorrow then, Jax.”
Jax watched him walk out the door. Giving himself a brief mental shake, he breathed in deeply to clear his head. He had never been so instantly attracted to someone before. When Father Donavan had told him about a researcher, but he’d never pictured a young man with skin-tight leather pants, a black biker jacket, and lips that looked like they would be right at home wrapped around a cock.
