Book Blitz: Interview & Giveaway with Sofia Grey - Obsession

Welcome to IAB. I'm so glad you could stop in today to chat. May I offer you a beverage?

Magic Margarita please. You had me at ‘margarita’

Now that we are settled in, let's get to know you better.

BK: Looking out the nearest window, describe the scene you see.

I’m sitting on a busy commuter train and right now I can see hills and green fields whooshing past.

BK: Tell us about your office. Is it a mess like mine, or is everything in its place?

Sadly, I don’t have the luxury of an office for writing in. Most of my writing and editing is done on the train – I travel an hour each way to work and back, and I make the most of those 2 hours every day! Lack of space means my netbook is perched on my knee, a flask of coffee close at hand.

In my day job my desk is ludicrously messy, but strangely, I know where everything is

BK: What is a must-have, such as coffee or a favorite pen, that you need to write?

Netbook, coffee. I sometimes write longhand too, and I prefer a coloured pen, either pink or purple and a hardback book.

BK: Do you like to write in silence, or do you need music or background noise?

Background music, without a doubt. Usually my iPod on the train (I have different playlists for each book I’m working on) and partly that’s to block out the external noises and chatter. Right now I’m listening to Slash (Bad Rain).

BK: Tell us a bit about your hero/heroine, and their development.

Suki Bridgewater is the female lead. On the outside she’s confident and polished, but under the surface, she’s fractured. Imagine a delicate piece of china with cracks running all down the side. All it‘ll take is one blow and she’ll shatter. By the same token, if she’s glued back together she’ll be stronger than ever. She’s the hottest new daytime TV presenter and a major celebrity, used to living in the public eye alongside her equally famous racing driver husband, Gabe. They’ve been married for nearly ten years and she’s struggling to maintain the illusion of the happy wife.

Josh Delaney is a charmer. Smooth and handsome, he gets paid to try and seduce women, to see if they can be tempted away from their husbands. He doesn’t believe any woman is capable of being faithful and his career has made him increasingly jaded. When Gabe hires him to seduce Suki, Josh’s world is turned upside down. He falls in love with her.

When he learns that Gabe might be dangerous, Josh’s protective instincts take over, but Suki is adamant she loves her husband. And besides, how will she react when she learns that he’s been lying to her all along?

BK: As a writer myself, I'm always curious how other writers get through stumble blocks. When you find a story not flowing, or a character trying to fight you, how do you correct it?

For me, going for a drive or a long walk usually untangles things in my head and helps complicated plots to become workable. If the characters are really fighting me though (isn’t it frustrating when they do that!), it’s probably because I’m trying to force them to do something they’re not happy about. Backtracking and rewriting the last scene helps, and then letting them go the way they want to.

BK: Using the letters of your first name as an acronym, describe your book...

Surface appearances
Obsessive behaviours
Family secrets
Internet searches
Another lie

BK: How did your writing journey begin?

Like so many writers, I scribbled from an early age but with little direction or focus. I made the decision a few years ago to make it happen, and started treating it like a career instead of a fun hobby. I joined a Romance Writers Group, found some friendly critique partners and began to develop my style along with my stories. At the end of the year I was signed up by Time and Tide for Obsession, and shortly after I sold a shifter story to Liquid Silver Books. It’s been a busy year so far

BK: Using the letters from the word, Summer, how would friends and family describe you?

Silly jokes – What do you call a man with a seagull on his head? Cliff
U
pper hand - I like to have the last wordMarmite lover – on lightly browned toast with lashings of butter – and cut into little trianglesMargaritas – my favourite cocktail
E
xcitable
R
omantic

BK: What is the craziest thing you've ever written about, whether it got published or not?

A Vampire BDSM scene in a writing comp for my Goodreads group. Sadly, I can’t find my copy anymore, but it was hot

BK: Tell us one thing you've done in life, that readers would be most surprised to know.

I once fainted in the toilet of a 747 while on a transatlantic flight. My colleague sitting nearby heard the thump as my head banged against the door and came to rescue me Actually, that would make a great opening for a novel… hmmmm…

BK: What can we expect from you in the future?

The next in the Talisman series (CRAVING) is undergoing revisions and I hope to get that out by the end of the year. I have the series planned out and am super excited about the story arc and the way the Grey Mansion links all the characters together. I’m also working on the next in my Snowdonia Wolves shifter series and am busy revising a couple of time travel novellas that I drafted some time ago.

This or That...

Coke or Pepsi? Cherry Coke

Night Owl or Early Bird? Night owl. When in a writing frenzy I can exist on 3 – 4 hours sleep.

Fantasy or Mystery? Mystery. I love ghosts, vampires and shifters, but fairies and elves make me shudder

Pen/Paper or Computer? Can I have both? Computer for when the words are flowing, but pen / paper is sometimes the best way to get going

Pizza or Burger? Pizza! My current favourite takeaway features smoked chicken, chorizo, fresh basil and pine nuts. Yumm!

Rock or Country? Rock, rock and more rock. Best gigs – Foo Fighters, AC/DC, Shihad

Chocolate or Vanilla? Chocolate. Reeses Peanut Butter cups are impossible to resist

Beach or Mountains? Beach. Our last house move put us one street away from a deserted beach and I love it

Thank you so much for having us as one of your stops today. It has been great getting to know more about you and your book, and hope you will come back when the next release is out (*hinthint*)

Wishing you much success!

Thank you, it’s been a blast coming here to meet you, and these are hands down the most challenging questions ever!

ISBN-13: 978-0-9892549-4-6 print

Number of pages: 352

Book Description:
Josh Delaney is the ideal honey trap. His charm and model good looks would be enough for most women, but coupled with his psychic ability to read their thoughts, he’s impossible to resist. Suspicious husbands employ him to test their wives, to see if they can be tempted to stray.
High profile couple Suki and Gabe Bridgewater have the perfect marriage, or at least, that’s the image they portray to the world. Behind closed doors, Gabe’s dominance in the marriage is unravelling and he decides to test Suki, using Josh as bait.
For Josh it should be just another easy job, but two things go horribly wrong.
One, Josh falls in love with Suki.
And two, Gabe refuses to let her go.

Short Excerpt:
His smile disappeared, his fingers stilled on my shoulder. “I don’t think you’re getting confused. And I really don’t think you need to be taking those pills.”
I considered it. They left me feeling fuzzy and tired, remote from everything. “What about the panic attacks? They’re supposed to help with those.”
“Uh-huh, but Suki,”--his fingers curled around my shoulder again--“I can help you with those.” I met his gaze, felt myself falling into his beautiful eyes again. What was it about this man? I felt so safe with him, and we’d only just met. I took a quick breath, tried to swallow down another yawn and failed. He laughed softly. “While you’re here, why don’t you stay off the pills, and I promise, if you feel even slightly panicky, I’ll look after you. What do you say?”
“Who are you, Josh? How do you do this?”
“I’m just a guy. Nobody special.” His eyes darkened, holding my gaze. Knuckles brushed against my cheek and slipped down to caress my jawline. The tenderness, the gentle affection, took my breath away. Common sense yelled at me to move. Something deeper, more instinctive told me to stay. I could hear his breath, unsteady, his heartbeat speeding up. He’s nervous, I realized. The corners of his lips tugged into a hint of a smile, but his eyes were serious, watchful. The air felt charged between us. I imagined if I swirled my hand, I’d conjure a bolt of electricity.
I licked my suddenly dry lips, wondered what he’d be like to kiss.
I remembered my husband.
I heard a footstep in the doorway just before Anita murmured about a pillow and dumped a pile of bedding on the armchair. We broke apart, Josh sweeping his hands through his unruly hair while I made a point of stretching. As I left the room in Anita’s wake, I couldn’t help looking back… and saw Josh watching me, his eyes deep and his expression fathomless.

Bewitching Book Tours Interview & Giveaway: Trust: A New Beginning by Cristiane Serruya

Welcome to Immortality and Beyond. May I offer you a drink?

Hello, I’m so happy to be here. I’ll gladly accept a witches brew. In fact, please, make it double.

BK: My kind of gal! *grins* I'm so glad you could join me at the round table. Let's just dive right in, shall we? When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

Never… LOL.

Although, I've always written, I never thought I would be a writer. I used to write for myself, poems, short stories, kids’ stories for my daughters, these kind of things.
It all started when I was bed-ridden, sick - and bored. I had a such bad headache that I couldn't even read or open the curtains. So… I decided to tell myself a story. The seed was planted. But it took me almost a year to gather the courage to put some ideas on paper. Then I discovered that I could speak of things that enchanted me and inequities that aggravated me in a much more creative and lighter way than my work as a lawyer.

What started as a pastime, in a few days, turned into a huge project that involved much more than just writing as a hobby. When I started writing in February 2012, I used to spend more than 12 hours a day, weekends included - dedicating myself to the trilogy.
So, I wrote the book, edited it, then uploaded it to an Indie publishing house and... that was it.
Or so I thought. LOL. The problem started after: How do I make my book known?

BK: Please tell us a little bit about your current release...

The TRUST trilogy is an intriguing - and hot - story about people who need to forgive, forget and learn how to love again.

Trust: A New Beginning is a love story where, just as in real life, it doesn’t matter if you are rich and powerful, if you wear Channel or drive a Mercedes 722SL, bad things - and good - will happen to you. Yeah, money helps and rich people’s lives may seem easier, smoother, but tragedy strikes everyone and it doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor. The thing is the richer never see it coming...

BK: What inspired this particular novel/book?

Real life. My trilogy tells the story of friends of mine. Real people. People that have almost everything in life, but love. I put them all in my cauldron, spiced it a bit and there they are. They have a lot of life history and so many secrets hidden in their past that they’ll need to relearn how to trust and give themselves the chance to begin anew.

BK: How do you keep your writing different from all the others that write in this particular genre?

I never really though about this. It just comes out. It’s instinctive. Like life. I don’t have a format or a rule to follow. I do what I feel like.

BK: What was the hardest thing about writing this story?

About writing… Nothing. I love, love, love the whole process. The creation of the characters, the research, the imagining of the settings, oh! This was fun, great fun! But then… OMG! Editing, polishing, converting and marketing it are the hardest parts of it.

BK: I have to agree with you there. I HATE editing, and marketing is very hard. You have to be consistent that is for sure. Which character was your favorite to write for in this story? Why?

Sophia and Gabriela. There is a lot of me in Sophia and in Gabriela. Many things that they experience in the book I’ve drawn from my own experiences. For example: I could read when I was three years old and I entered my first University when I was fifteen. I love to ride horses and since I was a kid I loved opera.

BK: Tell us about the one scene you had the most fun writing…

This is not a fair question… I loved all. But if I had to choose one, it would be the one at Galewick Hall where all the characters are gathered and a drama happens.

BK: Will this become a series? If so, what inspired it to be a series? OR If it is a series, what inspired it to become a series?

Well, this is already a trilogy… However, I plan to write the whole Santo family story. I don’t really know if they are going to be stand alone or trilogies. This is up to the characters to decide. *grin*

BK: Now for a little fun, and into your everyday life, What is a day in your life like?

I takes two coffee mugs and a yogurt while reading my newspaper, because in the morning I’m a zombi. Hmmm… I think I’ll accept one of your zombi blasts…

Hmm, thanks! That is very good. Cheers!

Back on track, it depends on my mood. I usually answer my emails and say hello to my friends on Goodreads! If I’m on the mood, I can bake a cake or go running on the beach. Then I sit and start writing for hours and hours and hours, until my children and husband arrive. Then we have dinner together and sometimes we go for an ice-cream or see a film.

At the weekends, we go to the Copacabana Palace pool - with lots of sun-block and a big hat - or to a club, or even we can go riding. When we are on holidays, we go to Angra dos Reis that is a paradise near Rio or to the mountains and relax. But… don’t tell them, my Kindle and Mac go with me.

BK: What do you like to do when you're not writing?

This is easy: reading, working out, cooking, and I always go to cinema and out dining.

BK: What is one thing your readers would be most surprised to learn about you?

You won’t believe it, but I’m very, very shy!

BK: That's the second time I've heard that in 2 days, LOL. Maybe it's a trait of good writers *smiles* What do you like to read? Who is your favorite author?

I’m actually a compulsive reader. At the moment, I’m re-reading The Book of Disquiet, by Fernando Pessoa. And, oh! I can’t forget! My oldest daughter, Raphaela, have been pestering me to read Rick Riordan’s books! She says he is the best there is, so… they are going to be my next read! Also, in my TBR list, I have Gena Showalter’s and Kresley Cole’s last books.

BK: I have yet to read her books, but I hear they are rockin' *hangsheadinshame*, I will get to them as they are on my TBR too :). What is one piece of advice you can give to aspiring writers/authors?

A few hints for those who are starting: Research what you’re writing about if you are not familiar with the theme. Surely one of your readers will be and will notice if you were lazy.

And, of course, exhaustively review your manuscript and ask, at least five of your friends to read it too. The naughty typos will be there if you don’t polish your manuscript over and over again.

BK: Great advice! What are you currently working on?

I’m finishing the last book of the trilogy, TRUST: Pandora’s Box. Where all the demons will be freed to terrorize the world of Sophia, Ethan and Alistair. Will Hope survive?

After the Trust trilogy comes another trilogy. LOL. I’m not kidding. Carolina Santo’s story is going to rock Rio de Janeiro, Hollywood, New York and London.

Lunches, dinners, fashion weeks and gala balls will vie for her presence.
The next trilogy will be full of gossip, beautiful and rich people, drugs, sex and rock’n’roll.

BK: OMG! Sounds AWESOME! I can't wait :) Where can readers connect with you?

I can be found online via my website cristianeserruya.com.br. On my FB page and on the TRUST trilogy fan page. I have my twitter accounts @CrisSerruya and @trustrilogy. I love to connect with readers and exchange ideas. I personally answer all the questions and comments, because my readers’ feedback are very important to me.

Excerpt:

Chapter 5
Saturday, January 16th, 2010.
10 a.m.

Sophia opened her eyes to find Ethan seated on the edge of the bed looking at her, a mug in his hand, his hair damp from the shower, dressed in faded jeans and a blue turtleneck sweater that did wonders to his eyes. “I could go for hours just looking at you.” She stretched, raising her arms above her head and entwining them; the sheets moved, showing a breast. “Good morning,” she smiled at him. Ethan put his mug on the bedside table. “Do that again and you’re not getting out of this bed, Ms. Santo.” Sophia grinned wickedly and stretched again, this time writhing her body, sheets bunching at her waist. “Vixen.” Ethan bent to kiss her but she rolled to the other side of the bed and jumped to the bathroom. “Don’t move,” she ordered. “I’ll be right back.” When she emerged from the bathroom, he was in the same place, an amused twist on his lips. “Good boy.” She smiled and picked up his mug, smelling it. “Mmm!” She raised her brows to him and drank his coffee. He smiled at her impudent gesture. She tugged him from the bed by the sweater. “Take it off,” she commanded. “You like to give orders, huh?” “Sometimes,” she smiled and quirked an eyebrow. “Do you know how to obey?” “Sometimes,” he replied and took off his sweater. “Let’s see.” She perched on the end of the bed, tapping her index finger on her lips, admiring his muscles as he moved. “Now what, Ms. Santo?” She could see a bulge in his jeans, her lips twisted and curled unbidden. “Jeans. Off.” He peeled off his jeans, amused, and threw them on the armchair. “Briefs. Off!” Her eyes gleamed and she bit her lip. He took off his briefs and stood proudly in front of her. He knew he had a great figure. Sophia motioned, with her finger, for him to make a complete turn. “Do you approve?” he asked huskily. “Oh, yes, Mr. Ashford, I do!” she nodded. Jesus! The woman is hot. Sophia rose from the bed and circled him, her fingers tracing his chest and his shoulder; she ran her hands over his arms and his buttocks, without touching his straining erection. “A fine specimen, Mr. Ashford.” She pinched his chin lowering his head a bit, to better look at his azure eyes. He hadn’t touched her and she was already turned on. “A very fine specimen,” she murmured. He let out a laugh. “I will tell my personal trainer that I made the grade.” He grabbed both of her wrists in his grip behind her back and pulled her flush onto his body. “I wasn’t finished, Mr. Ashford,” she frowned at him. “Seems I’m not that good at following orders, Ms. Santo.” She smiled at the admission. “Ethan. I never thought you would be.” And pressed tighter to him, parting her lips. They met halfway and he savaged her mouth, leaving Sophia with no ability to think.

@GoddessFish Tour - Interview & #Giveaway with Stacy Gail - Nobody's Angel

Welcome to Immortality and Beyond. May I offer you a drink?

SG: Ooooh, what am I in the mood for? Let’s go with Witches Brew, thanks. Nothing like a nice brew at the end of a long day…

Zar, our Zombie Butler will fetch that for you. Zar…

SG: *stares at Zombie Butler*
SG: *secretly wonders if hand sanitizer will be required to survive interview*
SG: *wants mommy*

Thank you Zar

*Drools* while handing drink over…

SG: Eep.

*Rolling eyes* You may return to your quarters now. Please don’t mind him, sometimes he just gets so excited when we have guest authors. He’s only ever bitten somebody once, *grins*.

SG: How…how delightful. So difficult finding good help these days, don’t you know… *frantically searches through black hole of a purse for the damn hand sanitizer*

Now that we’re settled in, let’s chat. Shall we?

SG: Absolutely!

BK: When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

SG: I’ve always written, from the time I could read. I used to rewrite the endings to my favorite books to make them “better”. Hey, wait. Come to think of it... I INVENTED FAN FICTION! *is amazed*

BK: *Clappinghands* I've always wondered who to thank for that! Please share with us how your current release came to life...

SG: First, I’m a nerd. Second, my brother’s a nerd. Third, nerdy siblings have nerdy conversations. That being said, we were talking about how it was too bad the Nephilim (angel-human hybrids) had been wiped out by heavenly wrath, because they would have made some kickass superheroes, at least as good as The X-Men. Then the giant guy, Goliath, came into the conversation, and since he was supposed to be descended from the Nephilim, we speculated how cool it would be if a few of them had escaped annihilation, only to have their descendants living among us. That conversation happened years ago, but I’ve never forgotten the “what if” germ of an idea of the Nephilim secretly existing somewhere in the world.

BK: I love it already. Do you let your characters tell the story, or do you often fight with them on the direction it will take?

SG: They gang up on me. They won’t let me sleep or have any fun. They hold me hostage until I tell their story, like they think the universe revolves around them. Ugh. *sinks into pity-party*

BK: I know how that is. It sucks! LOL. How do you keep your writing different from all the others that write in this particular genre?

SG: I avoid reading whatever genre that happens to have caught my attention as a writer. While I’m currently focused on writing PNR, sci-fi rom and contemporary rom, what I’m reading is historical rom, UF and New Adult fiction. Fun stuff, but I’m not going to be writing it any time soon. ;)

BK: Which character was your favorite to write for in this story? Why?

SG: ZEKE! Oh, Zeke, my deliciously angsty guy. ^_^ He’d thought he was the first in his family lineage to escape the Nephilim “curse” when he was born without wings, but no such luck. He might be a late-bloomer, but he’s definitely got the angelic DNA going on. Zeke’s got such a noble side too. Even though he’s certain he’s cursed simply because he was born, he still does his best to use his powers for good. And it’s a good thing—when a malevolent spirit targets the heroine Kendall Glynn, Zeke’s the only one who can save her.

BK: Tell us about the one scene you had the most fun writing…

SG: Ha! It’s got to be when Kendall sees Zeke’s wings for the first time. Her shock at the extra anatomy is…understandable. *laughs*

BK: If you were stranded on an island, which character in your books would you most want to be stranded with and why, and what is one thing that would be a must-have?

SG: Ack, that’s a tough one! I’d have to choose Zeke, because he DOES strand himself on an island with Kendall, the Farallon Islands to be precise, and things turn out great for them. As for the must-have item…if I’m stranded there with Zeke with nothing else to do, I’d be thinking along the same lines as Kendall—I’d want an economy-sized box of condoms.

BK: *LMAO* Now for a little fun, tell us a bit about what your office looks like. Do you need silence to write?

SG: *sigh* My sad little office is so boring. The focal point is this ancient pre-fab computer desk built in the 1990’s, back when desktops were HUGE. This desk is a particle-board monstrosity, about the size of a smart car. One day, I’m going to invite all my friends in to attack it with sledgehammers. And silence is the last thing I need to write. Usually I have Pandora blaring, or a movie I’ve already seen going in the background. Sometimes I’ve got both going on at once.

BK: What do you like to do when you're not writing?

SG: I’m a figure skating pro when I’m not stuck in editing hell. If I’m not listening to awesome pieces of music to skate to, I’m either on the ice or working out choreography.

BK: Well, who knew!? Awesome! I like figure skating. Watching it that is. If I tried to skate I'd be in ICU from a broken neck or dead. What is one thing your readers would be most surprised to learn about you?

SG: I can’t throw a Frisbee. *waits for laughter*

BK: *LOL*, I haven't thrown frisbee in forever. Maybe you can show me sometime, *Smirks*. What is the craziest thing you’ve ever wanted to write, or have written, even if it never reached public eyes?

SG: Oh, I can guarantee you it’ll never reach public eyes! I was still in my teens when I wrote this ridiculous college-aged ghost story piece, which really had more to do with having rambunctious sex in odd places than an actual plot. *dies*

BK: Great foundation. Sex is always good :). What is one piece of advice you can give to aspiring writers/authors?

SG: Don’t give up!

BK: What can we expect from you in the future?

SG: Wheee, I’m so glad you asked! In addition to NOBODY’S ANGEL releasing this month, the second book in The Earth Angels series, SAVAGE ANGEL, is out in February. The third book, WOUNDED ANGEL will be out in May, and the fourth and final book in the series, DANGEROUS ANGEL, has just been completed (yay!). And lastly, my latest venture into series writing is coming in July. Carina Press is releasing the first book in an open-ended, small town contemporary romance series. The first book is UGLY DUCKLINGS FINISH FIRST, a high school reunion story, and the series is called Bitterthorn, Texas. Ummm…and that’s it for this year. :D

BK: Where can readers connect with you?

They must contact me! I’m lonely! And needy! And vaguely pathetic! (And apparently I also like exclamation points!)

BLURB:

Book one in The Earth Angels

Investigative journalist Kendall Glynn is horrified when a friend and colleague signs off permanently during a live newscast, jabbing a pen into his jugular. Kendall's no expert, but judging by the strange white veil in the anchorman's eyes, she would swear he was a man possessed.

A descendant of the accursed Nephilim, Zeke Reece prowls San Francisco by night, keeping the city free from paranormal phenomena. But even he is no match for whatever malevolent force is behind a recent rash of murder-suicides. And when a beautiful tenacious reporter becomes the next target, Zeke has no choice but to stay close to her, until he can find the evil spirit and cross it over.

The closer Kendall gets to the truth, the more danger she's in. Fortunately, a sexy and mysterious masked stranger keeps swooping in to the rescue. Kendall's life depends on finding who or what is responsible for the killings, before it finds her.

Excerpt Two:

“You,” she breathed. She struggled to get a clear view of him, but it was a hopeless task. Even if a mask hadn’t covered half his face, the darkness around him seemed deeper, like an impenetrable black hole where no light could exist. “Where… How…”

“Quiet.” The tension in his voice was palpable. She could even feel it in the body that pinned her to the alley wall, thrumming with a kill-or-be-killed urgency that made her own pulse pound. “It took off once it diverted me. I can’t believe how smart it is.”

“What’s smart?” Shadows filled the places where his eyes should be, leaving dark pools of endless mystery. Belatedly she realized their bodies touched in one long line from chest to knees, and it was all she could do to pull a coherent thought together. “What took off? Why did you attack me?”

A low growl emanated from him. “I didn’t attack you, I saved your life. Again. You’re welcome, by the way.”

“You saved me? From what, that out-of-control scooter? I’ll admit, I never heard it coming—”

“That’s because it wasn’t running at the time.”

“What?” Her eyes went wide as horror began to creep in. “That’s impossible.”

“Impossible is the definition of your life lately.” She sensed more than saw his head angle closer to hers, as if to share intimate whispers in the dark. A shiver she knew he must have felt shook her when the feathering of his breath caressed her lips.
