BK: When did you first
realize you wanted to be a writer?
That
would be right after I wrote the first one in 2006. The first one I
wrote as a way to have the last word with a friend of mine, but about
half way through I realized I could do this and loved doing it. I’ve
been writing daily ever since then.
BK: Please tell us a
little bit about your current release...
My most current release
is Heart : Animal Trilogy. It’s a shifter/paranormal romance. I
tend to give away too much when I start describing a story, so I’m
going to cheat today and just give the blurb.
Torn

discovers her fiancé is not the man she thought he was. Unable to
accept the corrupt world he belongs to, she flees to the furthest
possible location she can reach on her own. Nothing could ever

from people, avoiding the decision of whether to accept his title as
leader and alpha of the pack. One alluring woman stirs up his
resolve and passion when she disturbs his solitary world. The man
inside is tempted in a way he can’t understand but his wolf knows
he’s found his mate.
Can he have her without
succumbing to the responsibilities waiting for him?
BK: What inspired this
particular novel/book?
Honestly,
I’m not sure. It takes the strangest thing for stories to come to
me. Heart started forming in my mind when I was on vacation at a
nice quiet lake up North… why my brain started thinking about wolf
shifters and a woman that ran from her home while I was canoeing
across a beautiful lake, I have no idea! By the time we were ready to
go home, I had a ton of pictures and half the story written inside my
head!
BK: How do you keep your
writing different from all the others that write in this particular
genre?
This is my first shifter
story, previously for paranormal I mostly did witches, curses and
physics, so this is a new thrilling trip for me. Basically I
suppose my stories are different because I don’t follow the rules.
Even though it’s fiction when you read three or four books that are
roughly the same topic/genre they seem to have similar ‘rules’ or
facts about the characters. I don’t follow those, at all, to the
point where I’m even shocked sometimes when my characters do
things.
BK: What was the hardest
thing about writing this story?
I thought I’d struggle
with the dynamics of having a character shift into something else,
but that wasn’t where the challenge was for me at all. I’m a
very outdoor type of person, having lived in the middle of nothing
most of my existence, so seeing things from Rayne’s point of view
was quite difficult. I had to stop and really look around to see
where I had Rayne and what she was seeing, I may know the name of a
plant or bug, but she definitely didn’t.
BK: Which character was
your favorite to write for in this story? Why?
It definitely be Rayne.
The way she was at the start of the book was hard for me to grasp,
she was so afraid and naïve. I really enjoyed pulling her out of
her shell and comfort zone to see where she could go. Of course in
the last few chapters of the book, she shocked me by how far she’d
come.
BK: Tell us about the
one scene you had the most fun writing…
It
would be the scene where Rayne is setting up her little camp area.
She has a car full of purchases she knows nothing about, having
relied on a teen to tell her what she’d need to go camping and then
she decides to rely on the instructions to guide her. I’ve set up
a tent on my own and let me tell you, she did fabulous for her first
time! Rayne’s thoughts: “How hard can it be to set up one
tent? Can’t be that difficult,right?”
BK: Will this become a
series? If so, what inspired it to be a series? OR If it is a series,
what inspired it to become a series?
This was supposed to be a
single book. Apparently by the time I introduced Devin, the
characters had decided this was going to be a trilogy. I didn’t
have a lot of history on Devin planned until he was on the phone with
his mother, and then the ideas began brewing. By the time I met
Calum, I knew he had to have a story of his own, so this is where
that went…

BK: Now for a little
fun, and into your everyday life, What is a day in your life like?
Busy.
I’m a mother of five
(four still at home – even though two are ‘adult’ age and busy
with school or work they still add to the mayhem) which translates
into a world of Xbox, Wii, laptops, youtube video’s blaring, three
different stereo’s going at any given time and endless drama.
I’m the full-time
general manager of a popular café and eatery franchise (yes that
means free coffee, lattes and cake!) and to get a whole day off means
I have to hide and pretend my phones are off or I didn’t get the
text message regarding the latest mishap or excitement.
Basically chaos is my
every day. If it’s quiet I’m not quite sure what to do. Oh, and
I write between all of that when my eyes are able to stay open.
BK: What do you like to
do when you're not writing?
I noticed you said ‘like’
to do and not have to do, so I’ll go with that. Aside from
sleeping, oh, hang on that’s what I fantasize about, I like to read
– anything, everything and if the weather is ‘summer’ like
going hiking is one thing I’d like to do more often.
BK: What is one thing
your readers would be most surprised to learn about you?
I don’t have TV. Years
ago we got rid of cable and haven’t missed it. There’s a few
programs we like, so we just subscribe to them online, but other than
that our televisions are for movies and games.
BK: What do you like to
read? Who is your favorite author?
Paranormal fiction would
be my favorite genre (big surprise there huh?), but I will read just
about any genre. I don’t have one favorite really, there are far
too many amazing authors out there to narrow it down, but my top five
would be:
Christine Feehan,
Sherrilyn Kenyon, Kresley Cole, Nora Roberts and Gena Showalter. At
least that’s the list this month, until I discover another and have
to read ALL of their work.
BK: What is one piece of
advice you can give to aspiring writers/authors?
Keep writing! Whether
you’re submitting the work or not, just keep going. At some point
you will write something that you have to submit and share.
BK: What are you
currently working on?
That’s
a long list!
I
have an over active muse, so it’s a scramble to keep up sometimes.
In addition to the Magic Seasons series (fifth book will be out in
February), I have three Trilogies on the go and two other stories
that I’d like to say are not going to turn sequel, but I have a
feeling they might.
On
the Editing desk right now is the third story in the Hidden Senses
Trilogy – Inner Reflections. This is my physic/ suspense
trilogy.
On
my proof list before it goes to the beta readers Book I in a
new witch Trilogy, Ancestor’s Enchantment Trilogy – the Witch
Within and I am trying my hand at a New Adult/YA , The
Alterealm chronicles – The Cross Over Huntress.
Waiting
to be written is the second book in the Animal Trilogy – Scent.
All I need is a few more
days in a week, a few more hours in a day, to quit my day job and
find a way to survive without sleep and I could finish all these up
in no time!

Excerpt:
If
nothing else she was warmer now. How long would the rain last?
Do I want to wait it out and then try to find a washroom – in the
dark? Rayne shook her head before she could go any further with
that thought. There was no way she was getting out of this car until
it was light out, rain or no rain. How many hours until daylight?
She debated very briefly whether she could squirm around and reach
the purse to get her phone. Highly doubtful. Besides being
cocooned in the puffy material, the phone was off for a reason and
turning it on just to check the time wasn’t worth the risk of Aiden
being able to trace the location. Truthfully she didn’t know if
that was possible even though all the movies referenced it being so,
but understanding what type of man Aiden was and what he was capable
of, she wasn’t taking any chances.
Working
one arm free from the bag, she shifted far enough forward to reach
the ignition; he couldn’t track the cars clock. Turning the key,
her heart sunk when she noted the time, there were too many hours
left until dawn. She looked out the windshield and froze, her heart
jumped into her throat. Afraid to so much as breathe, Rayne stared at
the animal a few feet away from the headlight. Her brain first said
dog, but that was no dog. That was a wolf; it had to be a wolf.
Were wolves that big? It seemed bigger than in any pictures
she’d seen.
She
sat there looking at it, not sure if she should honk the horn or just
sit and try not to get hysterical waiting for it to leave. The car
may be metal, but the roof was something this animal could probably
get through. As she continued to stare at it she couldn’t help
thinking it was a beautiful creature. It’s grey and brown fur
looked soft and thick, not that she’d ever be able to find out if
it was. It was the way the haunting grey eyes watched her that made
her decide not to honk the horn or scream as loud as she could, which
had crossed her mind briefly. Rayne was fairly certain it was as
surprised to see her as she was to see it. Didn’t wolves travel
as group? A pack? She wanted to look around and see if there
were more in the trees, but the logical part of her brain said she
was better off not knowing. Never argue with the logical part.
She
was sure she stopped breathing all together when it took a step
closer to the car and then turned quickly back towards the trees. As
she was reaching for the keys it stopped and looked back at her for
the length of two heart beats before it bolted into the trees and
disappeared.
Turning
off the key, she sat in the dark leaning back against the seat while
she tried to remind her body how to take air in. In this moment with
her heart beating so loud she could hear it, or at least it felt that
way, Rayne reached the decision that she was not getting out of the
car until daylight, and even then was questionable. One more
conclusion was also not turning the lights on again; her mental state
was much better not knowing what else was outside of the car. She
checked to make sure the door was locked, she did know a wolf
wouldn’t just walk up and use the door handle, but she felt better
knowing that she was locked in and more importantly other things were
locked out.
Pulling
her arm back into the sleeping bag, Rayne shuffled down as far as she
could and closed her eyes. The sooner she slept, the closer daylight
was to getting here. Over the noise of the water beating off the
car, she thought she heard a howl.
